I want to have a Bike Rodeo for a few of the classes (K-3) at the school my son and daughters attend but I am having a difficult time locating resources, specifically plans (course layouts), strategies and recommended activities. I have seen a lot of info on the internet but neither the school nor I can afford to have a group come in to present the program nor do I feel the need to become a "Certified Instructor" before I feel competent enough to teach kids about maintaining a bike, riding safe and obeying the laws.

So, with all that said, does anyone out there know of books (or other reference materials) that are affordable and from a Do-It-Yourself viewpoint that cover the concept of Bike Rodeos, especially as they pertain to children ages 5-9 (or so)?

Thanks, in advance, for any and all feedback!

PS: I have querried a couple "local" clubs. The problems with each club are twofold:

1) neither have a bona-fide program like I am after
2) I am not actually in the "jurisdiction" of either club

Our club hosts a bike rodeo every year in conjunction with the local fire department's open house. There is a small obstacle course set up with prizes for every kid, bike mainentance, helmet for the kids who don't have one, fitting lessons for the helmet and seats. The club members run some of the events and some of the fire department staff runs others. Check us out at www.santiamslowspokes.org.

I would suggest the local safety forces as a starting point. Police & Sheriff's agencies around here typically host these types of events and might be a good resource for you.
