I am interested in purchasing a 1999 buenos aires frame, but I would like to get a little more info on this frame weight, type of steel (renolds?), ant the type of ride from anyone who has ridden or owned this frame. I need it mostly for rec riding and maybe a few events during the summer. thanx!
I believe the '99 BA is 853 select, meaning the main tubes are 853 and the rest is 531. My '02 Poprad is set up very similarly. I'm also pretty sure the '99 has the Icon Air rail carbon fork and a threaded headset which are very good but not as light as some of the newer ones.
I own 2 Lemonds including a '98 - they are very nice. Light and very comfortable.

Yes.. the frame is the same frame as the Tourmalet, which I have (BA just has some better components).
When I bought the Tourmalet, I didnt have enough money to buy a great bike.. but getting it for 40% off, it was a GREAT 853 frame (with 531 stays), with questionable components. In otherwords, I bought the bike for the frame. The geometry is PERFECT for me, and the comfort of the frame is amazing, and it is a very light frame
(for steel). The only drawback I can think of on the 853 select frames is that they have a 1" headset (instead of 1 1/8"). Oh, also, the paint is somewhat prone to chipping.
Since buying it, I have upgraded the wheels to Ksyrium Elites, and come tomorrow, I will have mixed DA/Ultegra components on the bike (DA crank/chainrings/bottom bracket, Ult shifters, derailurs, brakes). While I plan on buying a lighter weight Ti bike some day, I will definitely keep my Tourmalet as the ride comfort is better than any other bike I have ridden.

I have a '99 Zurich, which I believe is the same frame. Just bought the bike a few months ago, but so far I really like it.

I, like BlueDevil, also purchased my Tourmalet primarily for the frame. I'm not sure what year yours is, but I believe mine has a 1 1/8" headset (2003).

The '99 Zurich is full 853 pro - the entire frame is 853. Same as my '98 Maillot Jaune.

Bought 99 Lemond BA in 99! (Bright yellow variety)
Love it, have about 7,000+ miles. Ride is great.
Seems light enough to me!
