Classic & Vintage - Raleigh DL-1 Bronze Green Paint

Hi guys,

i have recently bought a classic bronze green Raleigh bike from the 70's, it looks remarkably like the DL Tourist but not in black! Any idea of the model? I also need some touch up paint to repair the scratched areas, can anyone help me find the bronze green colour ?? Many thanks! Photo attached

Wheelbase and angles look like it is a Sport with 26 inch wheels. The Tourist has 28 inch wheels. However the Tourist was available in bronze green.

But that has rod brakes which I don't think they used with 26 inch wheels. I think it's a Tourist. My Tourist doesn't say "DL-1" or "Tourist" anywhere on the bike. Just Raleigh. But the consensus arount the forum is that it is, in fact, a DL-1 Tourist.

Yes, they did. Called the Raleigh Dawn back in the '50s here in the States, and while the model was not offered here in the '60s and '70s, it was in the U.K.

A variant (in black) also existed in for the U.K.-spec market in the '80s labeled the "Royal Roadster." It is seen in both the 26" Dawn rod-brake config and as a standard 28" DL-1.

Last time I checked, there was a Raleigh with rod brakes and 26x1-3/8" tires on Ebay. But there's a pretty good gap between the tires and fender, and I can't help but wonder if someone didn't stick a different set of wheels on it somehow.

Yeah, it's not a DL-1, it's a Dawn. It's a fine bike though. You don't see them often, especially here in the USA. That particular green is a Raleigh trademark.

Nice job of pissing on the fire hydrant, guys -- but the OP asked if anyone knows of a match for the bronze-green paint. Could we focus on that for a minute? OP's gonna think that everybody on C&V has OldTimer's disease.

I have yet to find any matching paint, I do have a bottle of fingernail polish that came from the dollar store that isn't too far off.

Oh, OK!

Go to an auto paint supply place, they can mix you a half pint of matching paint. They can even put it in a spray can for you.

Nah, that's the way they all are on those left-side drive models. :)
