Hello.....I am a new member and have a question........can anyone tell me if there IS or COULD BE an electric bike that can have its batteries charged up by pedal power whilst on the move ?
I ask because I take my bike when wild camping and run the battery flat and have no electric available to re charge it which means then having to leave and head or a nearby site, IF there is one, to charge up again.
Any help would be gratefully received....many thanks

The simple answer is yes, there are electric bikes that let you recharge the battery by pedaling or riding downhill - here is a link to one (http://www.electric-bikes.com/trikes/trikes.html#TerraTrike). That being said, I think you'll be dissapointed. It would take hours of pedaling to recharge a dead battery, and you would be hauling that (heavy) battery and motor around in the process. A better idea might be to save up for a solar panel blanket like this (http://www.21st-century-goods.com/page/21st/PROD/SPT/GSE25)or even this (http://www.brunton.com/product.php?id=607). They are really expensive (the second one is over a thousand dollars!) but they last, and will recharge a car battery, so they should have no problem with a bike battery. You might have to do some tweaking or modding if you need more than 24v, but it should still be do-able.
