Okay, so I need suggestions for a beer name. I just brewed my first all-grain pseudo-Trappist ale on Saturday. It's bubbling away like mad in the fermenter, and I could use a good creative name for it. So far, the best I've come up with is "Abbey Normal." I like it, but I'm wondering if Foo-land can do me one better.

Don't call it trappist and don't put abbey in the name, unless you want to look like a ******. Sorry i'm a traditionalist.

I'm not calling it Trappist. That's why I said "pseudo." (Also, because I'm not a Trappist monk.) So what's wrong with "Abbey"? It's my understanding that's how you designate the style if it's not actually Trappist.

I'll give you the whole label:

Old Frothing Slosh

The pale stale ale with the foam on the bottom.

Tastes like horse piss with the foam farted off.

Generally Abbey just refers to a brewery that has licensed the name from an abbey, it does not refer to the actual STYLE of beer. Many breweires make up an abbey and throw it on their bottle to cash in on the trappist cash cow. I say you should come up with something more personal that more fully describes the beer and the time and love you put into making it.

I'm a fan of really off-the-wall beer names. Some of the best that I brewed were:

8-man Boot Party Stout
(the beer guaranteed to kick your a**)

Fast and Stupid
(12% a.b.v. coffee stout with ~250mg caffeine/pint)

F*** YOU, BEER
(21.75% a.b.v. and bottled only in double deuces)

If I were you, I'd photoshop a picture of monks going down a slide from the steeple of a church and call it "Trappe Chute". Or a monk with devil horns and duct tape over his mouth and call it "Shut Your Damned Trappe".

Good suggestions, here. I liked "Abbey Normal" because of the Young Frankenstein reference, but this has me thinking.

I haven't tried many of theirs, but when I found out they had one called Tricerahops, I went looking for it. :D
