Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Shoe recommendations for women...?

I have been looking at Asics (same brand as my running shoes), but I need something with a stiff sole, I saw a thread about men's shoes, but wondering if there was anything nice for women, either Asics or another brand...

Preferably something not hideous, which will make my feet look like penises

there's nothing nice for anyone, male or female. prolly's blog had something about nikes designed for fixed gear riders, but i still haven't seen them in real life.

i'm yet to find a good sneaker that works well for riding, let alone one that matches my style. don't get me wrong-- doing 60 miles in my puma super tt's is no problem, but they are in no way "good for cycling". for me, if the sole is stiff enough to prevent discomfort, i'm happy.

you're going to sacrifice regardless; if you're worried about it, get a bag you like, keep your kicks in there and ride clipless.

I went to the store to buy some running shoes and came away with the ugliest things they had. But they feel so good on my feet and that's what is really important. If you are a fashionista, then stiff soles should be secondary to style but if you want to ride in comfort, get what works and not worry so much about what the shoes look like. Besides, none of the guys will be looking at your shoes. And if the girls are, who cares? You've got all the guys entranced by your mad biking skills.

It really is important to have stiff soled shoes for cycling.

thanks, so far i ride in flats. it licks balls. i can't sacrifice my cute feet for comfort. ha. jesus.

If you want something stiff, you can go clipless with a sneaker type shoe with a recessed cleat.

i started a recent thread about shoes because my running shoes werent cutting it for me. i have since given up, and on any longer rides i just wear clipless pearl shoes. if you arent going too far, i have found that "super feet" insoles rock in just about any street shoe. they are designed to keep your foot in a good natural position and are pretty stiff. good part is they will fit in just about anything you allready have, including running shoes.

they also make women specific ones, google superfeet inserts and check them out!

After yesterday's ride I decided to get some real cycling shoes and some SPD SL pedals. I was doing a bit of climbing and the Vans Authentics I usually ride with are just not stiff enough and my feet weren't feeling that great after the climb.

I tried some entry level shoes at the LBS and the Shimano R075 felt good on my feet. I also tried some Nike's they had as well and they felt horrible.
