Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Another Ride with my Sons

So the two boys and I went out this afternoon and did 14km and I must say every time out I'm impressed with my 5 year old, sure we,re only averageing about 14km/h but he has a blast and gets better every time out. I'm so happy I bought us all MTB's this year what a great way to spend time with my boys. The eldest is really pineing for a roadbike but I'm worried he'll kick my butt! If you can't tell I'm really digging this riding with my sons and the wife loves it, says they sleep like babies when I'm at work after they go out with me. I let the youngest set the pace so it's whatever he wants not what daddy wants and the oldest one always just takes off and waits for us. The little guy loves it as he says it's just me and you daddy. Almost wish they would never grow up.

How old were they when you started? We have a 6 year old and a two year old. Our daughter (6) is pretty reluctant thus far to ride her bike. I want to make sure she likes biking so I don't want to push to hard.

I just really got back into riding a year and a half ago. My sons, now 16 & 18, wanted to ride with me a lot more than I was willing to do when they were younger. I look back and wish I'd ridden with them a lot more than I did. Keep it up and build some awesome memories. They will truly last a lifetime.

Both my sons are very active and the younger one feeds off the older one but I too never pushed them to ride they just wanted to be like Dad. They both started of on trikes as soon as they could sit on one. Both did the same thing they could pedal backwards long before forward, that's a memory that will always stick with me. The oldest got a two wheeler with training wheels for his third BD and training wheels came off the following year at 4 years old. The youngest one got a two wheeler again with training wheels for his third BD. A week later I turn around the corner coming home from work to see my three year old riding without training wheels. I almost started crying I was so proud of him and too see the smile on his face was priceless. Like I've said before nothing like a bike to give a child freedom and confidence. I will always make the time to ride with my kids. They are now 11 and 5 with the 5 year old turning 6 next month.
