I am wondering about gearing preferences for loaded touring. What do people like to go with an 11-34t?
55-44-30 or 53-42-26. Thanks for any input.

On the tandem: 48-38-24 (the smallest rings that fit on standard Road cranks with 130/74 mm BCD), with 13-34 custom cassette (13-15-16-17-18-20-23-26-34).

On the tourer: 44-34-24 (on a XT crankset) with 12-32 custom cassette (12-14-15-16-17-19-21-25-32).

When touring, I almost never find the need for a gear taller than 80 gear-inches. And even for solo lightweight rides, 85-90 gear-inches is the tallest I ever want.
