General Cycling Discussion - Love forum??

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey, there's no "love forum" over here. How do you people survive without one? Where am I supposed to post all my useless witty rhetoric?

Looks like you found your spot.
This is it over here! :)
Are you cycling yet? I've been off the bicycle for three straight days now ... that's the longest I've been off in months!!

Yea, baby!! I found a backup babysitter (the inlaws) for this weekend so I'm good to go. Doing an easy spin ride manana and then a tough 60+ hilly ride Saturday and probably another 20 to 30 Sunday. I'm just letting you sprint out ahead for a bit on bikejournal.com then I'll be reeling you back in. :)

But um . . . have you heard my plans for the May long weekend (May 21/22)? :D

UHOH, no I haven't....
UHOH, no I haven't....
I'm flying out to British Columbia (leaving on Wednesday next week) where it is warm and sunny and scenic . . . and I'm planning to ride a fleche - this event: http://www.randonneurs.bc.ca/fleche/fleche.html.
A fleche is a 24 hour, 360+ km team event. The whole team has to complete the whole distance within 24 hours. We can plan our own routes and pick our own distances as long as it is over 360 kms. My team is planning to do 404 kms (~250 miles).
I'm really looking forward to it!! :)

Why was this moved? And why the cyclingsingles link???

Wow, that sounds like fun. If I'm reading it correctly then you'll be riding 250 miles over 3 days? What does something like that cost? I've looked into week long tour rides in Colorado and such but the expense has always been too much. I think it would be so cool to just go riding for an entire week. Nothing else on the agenda except food and cycling for an entire week.
Guess I'll have to find some other forum member to target on bikejournal - there's no way I'm keeping up with you. :)

NO, that 250 miles has to be completed in 24 hours. That's 24 straight hours of riding. My team will be starting at 7 pm on May 21st and we will wrap it up at 7 pm on May 22nd . . . at which time I will be collapsing into the nearest hotel bed!!
It's costing me $25 for a Manitoba Cycling Association membership (for insurance purposes), and $35 for the actual event there in BC, plus my flight out there, one night in a hotel after the event, and some food. My grandmother is out there so I'll be staying with her the rest of the time (and she'll be feeding me most of the time). So it's not bad . . . and after the recent snowfall here I am so anxious to get away!!
I did a week-long tour last summer in Wales after the Paris-Brest-Paris ... that WAS nice! :)

I'm hoping to do something like that again when I go to Australia this fall.

I have no idea. That was weird. Who's Koffee Brown?

OK, that's just crazy!! I guess it's doable though. That's just a double century with an extra 50 miles thrown in for giggles. Have fun!

lady bike mechanic and forum demigod.
and every inch a lady...demigod.
she is the spanker of argumentative bottoms, a friend to the inflamed.
Moderator.

Yep! It won't be my first double century (or longer) ride, but it will be the first time I'll be riding as a team. My team is 4 members and at least 3 have to finish so we've really got to support each other. Just to add to the challenge, only two members of the team have ever ridden together. I've never even met my team members! Yikes!! :D
BTW- Koffee is a moderator or something over here. They're a lot stricter here about what can be posted and where than on Bicycling. But I'm a little puzzled about the singles link unless she somehow thought you were looking for "love" over here . . . not understanding the setup we've got over in Bicycling!! :D :D

Apparently! They just thrown an entire thread somewhere else for no apparent rhyme or reason. Oh well, guess I'm just a non-donating newbie here. What do I know?

heh, I am going to guess that Koff thought this was another "can we have a singles hook up forum?" suggestion. I moved the thread back, enjoy and welcome to the forums! :)
Oh dang. My bad.
Thanks Joe.

Every forum here is a 'love' forum, are they not? :D
Just a warning about the Love forum over in Bicycling. You enter it & engage in conversation at your own risk. When it is actually up & running that is. There have been problems with Rodale's forums lately.
What I mean by risk they are not nearly as moderated as they should be like here. And any reported problems can take way to long to be dealt with, if at all. In some of the forums almost no one follows the rules that everyone is supposed to abide by & agree to when they register & sign-on. If you like the kind of conversation that is equal to a 7th grade boys locker room then Bicycling's Love Forum is just the place for you.
Some of those people have come here to these forums and tried the same stuff and found out the hard way it is not tolerated.
Yes here you can say what you want within reason. At least that's my interpritation of the rules. The good admins. & mods. here are pretty reasonable folks, easy to get along with, not to mention very diplomatic.

I live up in the high desert so most of my riding is in Apple Valley and Victorville area. But I also like riding to Mt Baldy Village via the Glendora Mtn. Rd, Oak Glen, Santa Ana River trail down to Huntington, and I do a lot of the local organized rides. There's a metric century tomorrow in Lancaster and in a few weeks there's a little hill climb called "Ride around the Bear".

Yeah I've heard about Ride around the Bear... just a bump here and there.. a walk in the park :D
A few guys in my club just rode GMR 2 weeks ago... said it was a pretty good ride.. better than when they rode it a few weeks before that in the rain.

Hey, I did that ride up GMR when it was pouring. I froze my butt off and thought I was going to die up from hypothermia. I probably rode with the guys from your club. Were they from OCRR? The only name I can remember was Richard, or Rick. I plan on doing it again May 31st. You should do it!

Yeah, it was Rick from OCRR... that's the club I ride with... Rick is pretty fast
I'd do it, but it doesn;t sound like a heck of a lot of fun.. isn;t it like hills 75% up for 20 miles or something ridiculous like that ? :-)

Yea, but it's never gets very steep, 3 - 5% most of the way I think. Great view, very few cars, and an awesome downhill.

John, The Love Forum is moderated and people have been banned for getting out of hand. YOU do know that because you were banned many times for it. There are a few people that post over there that get moderated more than others, but very rarely does it end up where someone is banned outright, unless they use workarounds to the censorbot (which you've done), or post personal information about other members (which you've done also), or make threats to people there (ummmm...yeah).
The only times the forums over there have been down is during their upgrades, which are now essentially complete.
You've started off on the right foot here and I hope that you keep in mind your expeirences from Bicycling.com.
Best of Luck.

Woohoo- Man, Oscar Wilde would've been proud.
from the Importance of being Ernest.-
Rich snobby girl visits country girl\ tea in the garden:
Rich girl:" Why I never imagined you would have such lovely flowers out here in the sticks." or to that effect.
Country girl:" why flowers out here are as common as people are in the city."
Urbane sophisticated putdown.

Yup, that's why I left.
Not only do some act like that, many more have no reasoning or arguing ability and if you want to discuss something or learn, you're out of luck.
There is a lot of traffic and there has been some good writers and interesting topics there, but too few for me to be worth wading through so much crud.
Y'all mean there are other cycling forums?
