Classic & Vintage - Gitane Tour De France ID

I'm considering purchasing a bike off of Craigslist, but am having trouble identifying exactly what model is being sold. It is advertised as a Gitane Tour De France model, Reynolds 531 tubing, with partially chromed Simplex drop outs, and Campy Nuovo Record derailleurs and shifters, brake calipers and levers, and cranks. Not sure about the headset or bottom bracket. I was under the impression that Simplex dropouts were not compatible with Campy because they aren't threaded.

Is this a TdF with upgrades? Any information would be extremely helpful in figuring out how much to offer.

Are you seriously asking us to identify a bike without pictures?

Simplex hangers can be modified to accept Campagnolo derailers, but it takes more than cutting some threads.

Early Simplex dropouts used an unthreaded 9mm hole that could easily be tapped to 10 x 1.0mm to accommodate a threaded derailluer mounting bolt. Later Simplex dropouts (early 80s on) used a standard 10 x 1.0mm threaded hole.

Looks like the derailleur's been modified, too. Rally cage on NR body?

I think Spence Wolf used to do something like that.

By coincidence, I bought a Gitane tdf last night... early the mid-70s vintage. It is in above average condition with mostly mostly original stuff. It has a Unicanitor saddle, and Mafac Comps, which was a nice surprise. Here's the beauty part... $25!
