dobson001,

That sounds like a fair price to me, but I'm going to move this over to the Vintage Valuation Inquiries Sub Forum, where you'll be likely to get better responses.

How come nobody asks before they bid? Didn't take long in this instance for the value question to come rolling in, either. Probably the invoice hasn't even landed in the inbox yet.

Oh, sorry - guess you did ask ahead of time.
You didn't pay too much if you don't have to put too much money into it. I looked at it before it closed, and it's a real mish-mash, parts-wise, but nothing that hopefully won't function OK. Just hope it doesn't cost a bunch to get ride-ready.

Actually I did ask before I bid, but nobody responded, which was in the valuation sub-forum. It seems I got a much quicker response in the regular C&V forum. Here is the original thread:

You did OK if your the end user. Nothing overly special there but you did OK.

As a side note...the presentation in that ad sucks. Bad setup on the bike, bad picture of the bike. Bad written ad.

+1 Lousy ebay listing. But as a buyer, this can mean a really nice deal. Hopefully bike will not have any hidden defects, and if you are getting the bike shipped, hopefully the seller knows how to pack a bike.

Seller has mediocre/marginal feedback IMHO. When you see negatives and neutrals from long term ebay buyers, that is kind of bothersome.

I'll put my two cents in. I think you got a GREAT deal. $130 for a bike like that, thats awesome. I like Atala's. Looks like a nice set of components. Early 80's bikes are nice. Brazed on everything, clean frame, nice design. You got a winner!

Maybe worth pointing out that it's hi-ten. I'd be a little more positive if it was a cro-moly frame.

You did fine since you are not paying for shipping, especially since seller quoted $180! An obvious miscalculation that may or may not have suppressed bidding. Let us know how it rides.

As long as you can get it in good riding condition without spending too much, I'd say you got a great deal. Even though it's Hi Ten steel and only mid level components, it would move quickly for $300 on the CL here in Chicago (if it were fully overhauled and ready to go).

But, if you have to pay for a full overhaul and any replacement parts, you could easily shoot up into the $300-400 range, in which case you're moving into the dangerous territory of too much spent.

Best of luck! In all likelihood, you've got yourself a nice little bike!
