Peugeot Aneto, serial number B709. Lugged Reynolds 531. Can anyone tell me anything about the model, or when it was made?

Is that your bike in the picture? What do the Reynolds stickers actually say, and if there's red lettering, what does it say?

Best bet on date of bike is to look up the component date codes on the vintage trek site. Most/many components on this bike will have date codes, from crank arms, derailleurs, brakes, seat posts, stems, hubs, etc.

The left shifter is like that because it was my first day with index shifting and I was unused to shifting after riding a fixed gear for so long. I had just pushed it too far. Also in this picture, my front wheel is on backwards, the bars are angled wrong, the toe straps are upside down, my seatpost is too low, and I'm pedaling backwards.

I'll look into dating the components.

I noticed the wheel, toe straps & bar, but only mentioned the shifter. I didn't want you to think that I was an over-critical S.O.B.... hehehe

Is that Ebay bike?

Its roughly a 1987 model designed for the European market. It could be an '88 IIRC.

The frame and fork is full Reynolds 531 Professional tubing which is the successor to 531SL. In short its an all out professional level frameset with pro level road race geometry. Again, IIRC it was spec'd with Shimano 105 when new.

What? 105? Yes!!!

The European market is considerably different than the U.S. market. In Europe many models are available with high end pro framesets and mid level componets. The idea is to make a bike that allows a rider to get into racing and to be competitive without breaking the bank.

Your front lever issue is more than like due to mis-assembly of the lever stop.

It's convention to have the QR levers on the same side of the bike - the rear wheel's is on the left side, so the front 'should' be too. That's all...
