Road Cycling - Professional Fitting

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Check out the Serotta website.I dont know how far it is for you but there is a shop in Brighton, MI.
I was fit by a Serotta dealer in the NYC area. He took all my measurments and gave me detailed measurments(frame size, saddle height and setback, stem length, etc.) for the stock bike I was interested in. I gave the specs to my LBS and he set it up for me. The bike fits like a glove.
I also got to drool over the Serottas in his shop. :D
Visit a few local shops. They may have a real expert on hand and not soem shop that paid for a Fit Bike and charge you to use it. Nothing beats a rela person with real cyclign experience and background for advice. Money cannot buy that.

According to Keith Bontrager (a former frame builder, his company was bought by Trek), most traditional fit methods are pure bunk - read his article here: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/kops.html
It might be helpful
I agree. They are simply formulas that come witht he machines shop buys. Then they just have any guy slap you on the machine and read the instructions. There are a few formulas floating out there.
As I said earlier. Everyone is different and has different needs. Just because you have 2 identical body types doesn't mean they will be set up the same.
Best to just start on a position and each individual adjust to their needs. In afew weeks you will coem to the one that you like most.
Not everyone needs to be set up like a pro rider. Many people nowdays like shorter top tubes and more upright position
The Wrench Science Fitting page is, if nothing else, enjoyable.
I'm not sure how scientific it is, but it seemed to work for me.
Measurements can be given in inches or cm....I can't seem to erase my metric measurements.
