i have an aluminum specialized frame (road bike). i'd like to take it to a shop and have it stripped and painted a different color. what would be a ball park figure that this would cost? considering i'd like it to be about the same qualilty as it would come from the manufacturer.

It wasn't cheap, but they did a beautiful paint-and-decal job on my Capo. (See Vintage/Classic thread for pictures.)

around $300. Tell them to use automotive laquer, not enamel paint.

hmmm i remember hearing a rumor amidst some biking friends in Rochester NY about a guy with a powder coat oven who would do it for under 50, provided the person did the stripping, prep etc. Not that this is a common occurence, but its worth checking out local powder coat places to see if they have a big enough oven, and how much it would be. Powder coated frame would be indestructible!

Local guy to me in MD powdercoats already prepped frames for $100. He is in Baltimore, MD.
