But the term is describing the hub, not the gears... "Interanally Geared Hub"...

If you wish to reference gear parts inside the hub you could call them "Internal Hub Gears."

Now see, that's why Sister Mary St. Erna taught me to diagram sentences in 8th grade.

In this case, "geared" is an adjective that describes the type of hub. "Internally" is an adverb that further describes the adjective "geared".

"IGH" is correct.
