Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Led Astray...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I haven't ridden very much recently. My weight is holding steady, or possibly climbing slightly.
I've been eating out more, overeating, and spending hours on the phone instead of riding. Yep, I've met a woman.
Anyway, I'm sure she would like it better if I continued riding and got into shape, so I'll start riding to work again next week. There will be warmer weather, but some rain, so it's a mixed bag. I've been so close to dropping under 200 lbs, but haven't quite done it yet.
My new girlfriend is not a cyclist, but is interested in it. She has had back issues, so she may even want a recumbent. We may even end up with a tandem recumbent someday.
She's leaving town for a week, and I won't get to see her for at least two weeks, so that'll give me plenty of time to get back on the bike, and hopefully drop under 200 lbs.

awesome that you met someone, slipping isn't bad as long as you keep trying to get to the top(your goals)
just don't go rolling down the mountain, gotta stay in nice shape for your new lady.

You could get one of those mixed-frame tandems where the captain's seat is a 'bent, and the stoker is a standard frame.

What does all this have to do with lead ashtrays? (which I don't recommend)
Anyway, nice to see that you have some nice things going on in your personal life, now get to work.

You could surprise her with a gift certificate to your favorite LBS. Go together and make a date out of it.
Get her a nice bicycle then you two can enjoy the hobby and exercising together.

Congrats on the distraction.
Instead of hours on the phone could y'all go for a nice walk to talk? Her leaving town might just mean more time on the phone though so you gotta work biking/walking in there. Maybe go for a nice row around a nearby lake with her?

I have found that those two things can lead to a rather dissapointing conflict. Sometimes recumbents can be a huge waste of some good lycra or a trisuit. :o

and if you have any kind of coordination you could take up some kind of dancing with her, maybe tango, maybe even salsa if your knees can take the sometimes not so gentle impacts

Are you thinking of a "Viewpoint" tandem?

If I understand correctly, the stoker is in front, and the captain is in the rear. It makes sense, because the rear (higher) center of gravity has a better position for controlling bike lean, and therefore handling.
I want one, but they're expen$ive...
Have you read Faust? Faust may have been led by Mephistopheles, but he wasn't led anywhere he didn't want to go.

She hasn't yet decided if she wants a 'bent or a "regular" bike. It's not time to buy one yet. I may get her an inexpensive hybrid to ride in the meantime. I'll be sure to give her warning about those squishy seats they come with.
As far as cycling clothing, she'll probably require time riding before understanding the usefulness. As far as pictures, she would require that I keep them private, sorry. :)
I spend a lot of time on the phone with her because she lives 90 miles away. She has her job, and I have mine. I need to talk on the phone less so that I can get up early enough to ride to work again.
My riding has really fallen behind. My weight is up. There is a little bit of self-loathing going on. I can't let that continue. I running by the LBS to pick up a screw I lost for my cleats, then I'm going for a ride (she works Sundays)

:roflmao2: That is so funny, because that is the same thing my brain came up with when I read the title of this thread. I'm like what the devil did that have to do with lead ashtrays? :twitchy: I need to pay more attention I guess...
