Hi
I have an ultegra hub that currently has a 9speed, can I put a 10 speed cassette on this hub?

Yep. It may need a spacer.

You shouldn't need a spacer. At least I didn't when I moved from a Ultegra 9 to a DA 10 last week. On an Ultegra hub BTW.

There is a 1mm thick spacer that comes with all Shimano 10-speed cassettes and is used when they are installed on an 8/9/10-speed hub. The spacer goes onto the hub first before the cassette is mounted.

I expect the spacer was stuck to the back of your new DA cassette and you installed it automatically when you installed the cassette.

You are probably right. I bought the cassette from a friend so it was most likely on there.
