Hi!
We're a group of italian students :)
we're doing a school project at university about road bike frames. We've taken part to many summaries with Cinelli, Selle Royal, and other greate name of cycling, and we've made a small research to understand the tipical amatorial user.

we would like to know from you:
what are the needs you give more value?
comfort, speed, weight of the frame, less vibrations.. and so on..

and:
If you could add something to you frame, what would be?
everything: from mp3 and lights, to elastomers to bring down vibrations, or new shapes

we're doing some brainstorming ;)
We would like to specify: it's not for a commercial porpouse we're doing this project!

^_^ thanks to you all

A lot of different people are going to have pretty different
values; I'm not sure how helpful this input is likely to be.

My concerns are:

1) weight;
2) durability;
3) feel *;
4) simplicity - i don't like a lot of stuff on the bike;

* By feel I just mean how it feels to ride it. I expect this covers a
ton of different elements: frame material, frame geometry, flexibility,
etc. I like to feel the road -- so I don't want any shock absorbers
or the like -- but I don't necessarily want my bones shaken loose
either.

My ideal bicycle would be light as a feather, 100% reliable, completely
self-maintainable, sexy in design and detail, and free of any and all
clutter.

Let me know when you've got such a bike!

maybe its time for you to start running:D. shoes weight very little, the very rarely crap out in the middle of a run, all you really have to do is keep them smelling ok and sorta clean, there are some really sexy shoes out there and the only option on them are shoelaces.:D...........

Racing bikes are pretty well evovlved, with lots of R+D effort devoted to the style. There has been little effort made into developing high performance commuter/utility bikes. Most experienced riders have developed their own "hack" bikes based on road, touring or MTBs, but heavily modified.
Why not develope the ultimate utiltiy bike, light, clean, easy to maintain, with good wet-weather performace, with integrated lights and cabling, some luggage facility etc.

Ok ..frame under 3 lbs, super stiff, less vibration (actually I am getting a Mg frame .. no really) ..

and if it could make a good cup of expresso, I would really appreciate
