Fifty Plus (50+) - There's No Such Thing As Minor Surgery...

...So I've been told. And, praise the heavens,the surgery I had today was "minor" by any definition. The surgeon even told me, "You have no restrictions." Except, I know he didn't include riding a bike five, ten, or forty miles. Well, I didn't bother to talk about it. But, higher powers willing, that will be on the dance card soon enough.

Don't know what you had done but I wish you a speedy recovery.

Did they mark you with a permanent marker before they began the show?

It's all relative, I guess. I never figured I'd consider a three inch incision across the front of my throat minor, but after a 10 inch incision between my ribs, the thyroid surgery did seem pretty minor. I'm hoping for no more surgery drama for a long time.

None of mine have turned out as minor as I expected.
A "simple" biopsy of my tongue turned into a 5 hour ordeal establishing an airway followed by 6 months of living with a tracheotomy.
A"simple": closure of the hole left from the tracheotomy became yet another airway struggle and a very irritated throat (which likely contributed to a false positive reading on a PET scan, leading to another routine biopsy.
This time they knew not to try the normal intubation method of establishing an airway and the operation went smoothly, but...
Somehow my throat became infected after the biopsy which contributed to aspiration pneumonia which landed me in the hospital for several days and in bed for a week.
So far, the only minor surgery I've had that lived up to its billing has been the installation of a port-o-cath to make chemo injections easier. Hopefully its removal will be as uneventful.

A little Jet-a-tude and you'll be back on the bike right quick. Now don't be like me, after my vasectomy a long time ago, when I went out and played in a 35+ basketball league game... Even though it was a big game and I was a big baller back then, I should have listened a bit more to the doctor's advice. My take of "don't do anything hard" was different than what the doctor meant.:innocent:

Only an appendectomy and dbl hernia surgery here. Nothing compared to what others have gone thru. Though neither was a lot of fun, guess I was lucky they occurred early in life and even now (at 58), I heal up quickly, and luckily don't have to heal up too often, as I've been blessed with good health. Hopefully, no surgeries in my future. Hope the recovery is quick and thorough.

If there was "minor" surgery, stabbings wouldn't get quite as much press!

Any surgery you can walk away from is minor.

So when do you get back on the bike?

I have had two cutaneous cysts removed, and I think that actually does qualify as minor surgery, but I would not call my tonsillectomy (at age 12) "minor."

If a doctor takes a knive and cuts me anywhere it is not minor to me. Hope yoyr recovery is fast and successful

I can tell you many a minor surgery has become a rather big pain in the ass,
I hope your doing well, and watch for any changes around the incision been a few post op infections going around..:innocent:

As a matter of fact, they did. I noticed the nurse was carrying a book called "Visions of the Apocalypse." I decided not to ask her about what that might mean.

Marking the site, to avoid wrong site surgery, is standard practice.
"Visions of the Apocalyspe" is something else.

Does it count if you have parts of limbs removed? I had a bilateral kne replacemnt in November of '07. In surgery about 3 to 3-1/2 hours (so I was told.) The surgery was the easy part; the therapy really was the tough part.
