Foo - Sad story tonight. Heartbroke tonight.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have not seen my friend this sad ever ...

He really got into bicycle commuting, and for months he weighed the options regarding the bicycle he would buy.

After he got his tax return, he bought a bike for himself and one for his wife.

Brand unimportant.

He is also my boss and he would call me at work saying "I cannot wait to ride this thing !"

He has been riding an old hybrid bike, really working at it, and learned a lot about bicycles.

He has bicycle porn in the office, even in his bathroom.

Tonight, he calls me and tells me that his inner tube exploded.

No biggie, I have a number of goat head proof tubes, a bike stand.

He came and watched and learned how to change a tube and all, and after the experience he is more than ready to buy a bike stand.

Still ... stuff was not right ... looseness on the handlebar side.

No biggie, let's see if everything is tight.

A seal on the headset is missing.

I could not do anything about it.

I could feel his dissapointment.

I have seen him through rough stuff at work.

He is made out of steel.

This little seal, giving play to his headset ... really made him upset.

He was ready to ride from home to work, the whole 12 miles and back.

His shiny new bike, brand uninportant but a good brand, was not put together right.

I could feel his dissapointment.

I almost cried when he left ... impotent to help him to get his bike right.

"Just a bicycle"

Yeah ... right.

This will make me be extra careful, being in the motorcycle business, that people feel the same when their motorcycle is not right.

One tends to let stuff go.

But this is his passion.

Between the two of us, we have probably close to a quarten million dollars worth of motorcycles to ride whenever we feel like.

Not being able to ride our bicycles makes us upset.

Not being able to help my friend broke my heart.

That will be all for now.

The LBS better fix that ... within the business day.

We know a crapload of people, are we are vindictive pricks. :D

I would hope the LBS would fix it especially since it seems so simple.

I would burn the LBS down.

They might welcome it.

With this economy, it's probably better to collect the insurance.

Oh, and if he was truly made out of steel...he'd ride it, headset play and all. ;)

Nuke the LBS from outerspace with a Chinese made WalMart branded low yield weapon, but only after they fix the headset.

Hah... just wait until his bike goes missing because some low life thinks he can sell it for 10$ or trade it for a piece of crack.
Now THAT hurts. And even after 6 month the pain has not gone away at all. :(

Heck, I had a bike stolen when I was a kid. Worked all summer long to buy that bike, and some scumbag stole it. The pain is still there, and if I caught someone stealing a bike...I'm afraid of invoking the death penalty on the spot.

sounds good to me:thumb:

....unless it was like giantcfr1's story in Japan (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=518481), where the perp actually apologized, with a bow. I think I'd let him live, with financial restoration as a given, of course.

Name names~! In a bicycle friendly city like ABQ, that is inexcusable - I'll be there in May, and would love to plan a visit to a LBS to give them a piece of my mind (small as it may be!)

Might even stop to borrow a Beemer for a week, or so.....

To be fair, it was most likely not the shop but the manufacturer's omission of the seal. Almost all headsets come installed from the factory.

Yeah, any good shop checks all the bikes over thoroughly, but if the minimum wage bike assembler (all the shop can afford due to customers never wanting to pay a decent margin) didn't specifically check for it...the break-in tune would catch it. Put down the pitchforks and torches folks.

By the way I am not trying to be funny here! It sucks when you want to ride and someone has made that an impossiblity!

It's a long way to Taiwan.

Perhaps a trip to Waterloo would be more practical? :innocent:
