what are the pros and cons of carbon rigid forks? and how good are in offroad?

Con-could spontaneously combust if pushed too hard...(no more than any other component pushed beyond its intended design)
Con-usually pricier due to the bling factor
Free advice: Get a nice rigid steel fork like a Surly 1x1. The steel is forgiving and the fork itself is mondo-cheap.

pro - feel more "in touch" with the trail, perfect for light trails and road, commuting etc
pro - great for climbing
con - no suspension...some people dont view this as a con but your wrists may not like you that much

I used to ride Northstar in the mid 90's on a rigid bike. At the end of the day I couldn't use my hands for anything.

Give it a while... after a few months any hand/wrist pain will go away except on the longest of rides.

I don't run anything super gnarly, and run a Surly Instigator front fork. Very similar to the 1x1 that Chelboed recommended, but made for 100mm corrected versus the 1x1 being 80mm corrected. Both are nice forks. My LBS even commented on how stout they are when I ordered it in. I notice little difference actually between that and another bike I have that has a nice Marz shock on it, although I have a tendency to run the air in my Marz near the max.
Pro also is there's little to nothing to break or wear out.

the bottoms of my forks are full of scratches and dings, i shudder to think of what carbon would look like after that kind of repeated abuse
