Looks like you've got a mid-90's Boulder SE and not the straight up Boulder. The Boulder had one tube token chro-mo (the seat tube), and the SE had a chro-mo front triangle with mild steel stays. I believe that all of Giant stuff was made in Taiwan or China at this time. I know that the Boulder and the SE were both distributed in the USA in this time period because I sold them. The difference between old Altus and Acera is mostly just Shimano marketing hype. They were always the bare-bones groups just above Tourney and a couple of notches below Deore. I'm not sure if you are intending to keep these original components, but if it were my bike, the first thing I'd do would be to replace the brake system. Those old canti's suck. Anyway, just my opinion. Good Luck.

Cheers plasticmaam12, the only reference to Boulder SE starts in the 01 onwards in bikepedia, but as you sold em then I guess that's as good as gospel, and no doubt more reliable. Thanks for the info.
