Yep - finally pulled the trigger. Went to the LBS and test road, then bought a Trek T900. Must have been leftovers since I don't believe they make any tandems except the cruisers any more. They didn't have any other tandems at the low end (although lots of Co-motion and Santana) set up and since I really haven't ridden a single in years, I don't think I would really know what to look for by way of comparison shopping anyway.

We look forward to riding the 8-mile forest preserve paved trail that is about a 1/2 mile ride from our condo.

I made sure to get a spare tube and one of those seat pouches with the tire levers, hex wrenches, and a frame pump in case we get a flat. I noticed that the bike didn't seem to want to shift into #3 ring on the left side handelbars (we have SRAM grip shifters). Any thoughts? Maybe I need to be in certain gears on the right side before attempting to shift to #3? I have little experience with shifting, though #1 and #2 left gears seem to shift without any trouble, as do all the other right gears.

Just needs some adjusting, if 1&2 are ok back the limit screw up half a turn for starters and try again, then start fine tuning it some. If you still have problems start from the beginning. Put it on the small ring set limit screw check cable slack adjust as needed, shift up one gear if it doesn’t move enough or too much use the barrel adjuster then check #3 set limit screw as well so it doesn’t over shift. It’s not hard but it sounds like it just need some slight adjusting. If your close to the shop let them do it if needed.

Quick look on Trek's website shows the T900 and the cruiser.
