Mountain Biking - Fisher Cake 2 DLX

Anybody here have a Fisher Cake 2 DLX? It's been reviewed in a few recent magazines, with decent write-ups. Any opinions or experience with the Cake 2 DLX? I'm also considering a Trek Liquid 25.

Never been a big fan of TREK or Gary Fisher products. This year's lineup is no exception. They're not bad bikes, just not for my style of riding.

I've only talked to one person with a Cake (a dealer, actually...so take it with a couple grains of salt). He said it was a great all-around ride; with the new stable platform tech, it climbed fairly well (altho, he said it wasn't as good as his $3500 Klein...that he also had in stock).

As far as the Liquid, I haven't heard ANYTHING good...one lil' huckster said he loved his at one of the LBS, but everyone else has not had anything good to say (Too heavy, poor climbing).

My take on the Cake is this: GF is using an old design (single pivot) in it's simlest form and using the stable platform shock to compensate for flaws...The exciting part is that it works.

Yea GF is using an old design, MTB Action has a shoot out with the '04 Stumpjumper and the Cake 2 dlx. and 3 other bikes the Stumpjumper came in 1st and the Fisher cameon 4th... Ide just get a Stumpjumper... or have you looked at the Gaint NRS series? I love my NRS 3, if course you talkin about a much higher bike than mine, but doesn't sag at all and is a great climber...

I demo-ed a Cake at the local trailhead. I wasn't impressed with it's climbing, but on descents it was plush. I wasn't impressed enough to drop $2,000 on it, though. I'd keep shopping.

BTW: I'm 135 pounds and ride a small frame, if that matters to you any.
