Hi all!
My name is Justin Taylor, and I am a student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a rider for the Illini 4000 for Cancer. This summer the Illini 4000 will send 25 college students, including myself, on a bicycle journey, 4000 miles across the nation from New York City to Portland, Oregon in an effort to raise $100,000 for cancer research and family support programs. In the places we stay along our journey, we will engage community members to share their experiences with cancer, chronicling their stories and sharing them in an exhibit entitled A Portrait of Cancer Across America.
The Portraits Project is one aspect of the organization that I am very involved in. We are taking the project to new heights this year with the launching of a new website later this spring, increasing the number of interviews we will be performing before, during, and after the ride, and greatly improving our ability to present what we gather with the help of a grant from the Hillel Foundation. Throughout the ride we will be transcribing interviews and posting portions for everyone to experience on the website. It is with the Portraits Project that our ride gains the ability to record and share America’s struggle with cancer.
Needless to say, I’m very passionate and excited about this project. All of our riders are training for the rigors of our trip and fundraising for our cause and I was wondering if you would be willing to make a donation. Contributions received will be donated to the American Cancer Society earmarked for cancer research as well as Camp Kesem, an organization which runs summer camps for children affected by cancer. We make great efforts to run as efficiently as possible and put the burden of travel, equipment, and a large portion of food and fuel costs on the riders.
If you would like to make a donation, you can donate online at www.illini4000.org under the donate tab. Alternatively, you can send a check to Illini 4000 P.O. Box 2431 Champaign Il 61825. Make sure to enter my name (Justin Taylor) in the rider field if you wish to donate online or in the memo if by check.
I strongly encourage you to watch a short video about our first years ride at www.filmsthatmove.com. If you have any questions about the Illini 4000 or about our programs, please feel free to get in touch with me. We leave from New York City on May 29th, and you can track our progress online and read about our experiences at www.illini4000.org all summer!
Thank you so much for reading and I hope you will visit our website http://www.illini4000.org

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
