Bicycle Mechanics - SUPER cheap repair stand

I found this when searching for a stand in my price range. I've never seen anything this cheap and was expecting to spend around $100. My wife and I are slowly becoming car-free again and I need something that can stand up to daily wrenching. We don't have a lot of cash to spare, so i don't want to buy it now and have to buy something else in a few months. Anyone heard of this product or have some advice?

I have one and use it with mt. bikes and recumbents. It is plenty stable.I also use shock cord to tie bike down.

I had one of those for my first repair stand and was very happy to replace it with something better. It's not steady or strong enough for anything but light adjustments. Attempting to do bottom bracket work was a study in frustration and almost-dropped bikes. It was a real lesson in the validity of the two saying: "Only an rich man can afford cheap tools" and "Buy cheap, buy twice".

If you plan to do "daily wrenching" get a better stand. Nashbar's house-brand (probably the same thing as Performance) stand is on sale for $90 and is a far better tool. Look here:

Amazon's reviews seem to point towards a "no". Take a look, though, don't take my word for it.

thanks to everyone for the input. i'm just going to wait a bit and save up for something a bit tougher. there's a bike co-op downtown that i'll take advantage of for the time being.

Super cheap is an ironing board

You only get what you pay for. Save up and get a good stand. You will not be sorry.

I had one of those made/sold by Minoura in 1983ish. It was horrible! Save your money to put towards a REAL stand. That's a toy.

Bought the same thing for $25 from Craigslist. Can't wait to buy something better. Bikes are not stable on this stand. After one leans over and bonks you in the head a couple of times, the "deal" is not so appealing any more. Save up.

I built a great one with square stock 1" steel, a length of 1" steel pipe, a 90 degree 1" to 1/2" threaded pipe adapter, some 1/2" pipe, a standard woodworking pipe clamp, a mig welder, and a block of maple. I'll have to post photos sometime. I had an old Chicago Schwinn tandem hanging from it last week and it didn't budge. Total cost was somewhere around $30.
