So i just got new tires but didn't feel like buying a whole new wheel. Is it possible to paint the rims on my wheel and still have it look decent?

I was actually thinking the same except with powder coat. I've heard some say it messes up the braking surface. Maybe someone can jump in. There must be life after black & silver.

You can but if you want it to really look good and not chip off, then youd have to get someone at an auto shop do it for you. I dont know how much they'd charge but my friend works at one and he charged me 20 bucks from black rims to gold, and he did a good job and the paint wont chip off at all.

Or if you can figure out a way to get car paint yourself with the clear coating they use, you can do it yourself.

Someone else will suggest getting it powder coated. I dont know the process behind that but you can google someone in your area who can do it.

If you have a breaking surface (like my front rim does), then once you find a method you like (powder coating, car detail paint, whatever), you can use a glue to cover the machined part (like cement glue, something that will PEEL off, not anything that will stick) and then do your paint job, and then peel the glue off the machined part in one strip. Thats how my guy did it at least... or you can use tape to cover it up if your unsure about using glue

Wait, you weren't asking about bicycle rims were you?
If that's the case, forget it. True fact: 99.9% of the do-it-yourself paintjobs that have ever been applied to bikes or parts rendered them uglier and crappier than before.

Its true you're probablly better off getting new ones if you cant go through the trouble of going to a car detail place. My friend just happened to work at one and likes doing paint jobs on bicycles.

To paint a desperate normal client, it would probablly not be that expensive. If it was an ABNORMAL desperate client, then it would cost a lot more.

My friend just happened to be able to do it for cheap. My arms and hands havent chipped yet considering I use them daily.

i got quoted $75 for about 5 frames at this local shop called "Accessory Powder Coating". wanted to share this as a ballpark estimate~

Uh, I don't really follow you--why would you need new wheels, or to repaint your old ones, just because you bought new tires?

yeah i've heard people have used apc for bike frames before. not a bad price, i guess the greater expense is the frame stripping

Unless you can lace wheels and do the paint yourself it'll be cheaper to get a set of colored wheels online.
