What are some high calorie per dollar foods? Here is what i can find in my local grocery ( generic brands ):
Quaker oats - 2500 calories/dollar
Raisins - 1000 calories/dollar
Peanuts - 1000 calories/dollar
On a similar note, why are generic brands so much cheaper? Is the quality the same?

Canola oil is about 4000 Calories/dollar.

yea, high calorie per dollar isn't really a problem. I just found a 5 lb bag of sugar that contains 45340 calories for 3.79$. So that's 11963 CALORIES PER DOLLAR, without shipping of course

Well, I am looking for things to snack on during the day, so canola oil and raw sugar don't cut it!

They can if you don't mind eating those things.
Honey is delicious raw and doesn't spoil.
I buy generic. Sometimes you notice a difference and sometimes you don't. For example I notice a difference between the generic frosted mini wheats and the kelloggs frosted mini wheats. I don't notice a difference between generic oatmeal and quaker oatmeal.
I suppose the simpler the food, the less different the generic food is.
With generics, whether the "quality" is the same depends. Now with some generics, they cut all possible corners and quality does suffer. There are some companies that produce reasonably high quality generics that are pretty similar to name brands. There is almost always a subtle difference. So it depends on how important that difference is to you.
And those oriental noodle soups run about 380 calories per packet for $0.25 a packet that works out to about 1520 calories per $1.

I recently read a book called "Fatland". It explained partially why obesity in America is so high is because the availability of calorie dense pre-packages foods has risen over the years. The problem isn't finding cheap high-calorie foods, it's finding high nutrition/dollar foods. You should be looking for good foods with good fats. The 350 calories in a large avocado is a lot different than the 350 calories in a 99 cent whopper jr.
