I'm from Troy, Michigan, and was wondering if anyone knew of any good bike shops around the area that carry clip in pedals and shoes.

Also, what are some good comfortable shoes? I will most likely be buying the mountain bike version.

clip in pedals and shoes are pretty standard equipment can't imagine any bike shop that wouldn't stock em. Should be an REI in Troy but i don't live in michigan so idk about your smaller shops ect.

as for what shoes, sidi shoes are really nice but $$$, I've liked my pearl izumi shoes, they have taken a beating and are still solid, comfy and much more affordable. just try crap on until you find what works, some people like shimano shoes but they don't fit my feet as well

My recommendation is for sidi shoes and time atac pedals as there can be quite large differences between the way pedals perform in mud and how easy they are to get into and out of.

I ride with Shimano M520 pedals. Good peds. Got them at my LBS @ 60$

I bought the cheapest set of shoes at my LBS. Time MXC @ ~100$

The peds are tanks, as are the shoes. The shoes aren't too bad when it comes to comfort, either. I'll admit that I have tank feet, but I've ridden a century in 'em with no problems.

I gave my friend some wellgo pedals that came on my bike (i run eggbeaters) they sucked, i tried them too, and it didn't take him long to upgrade to eggbeaters

they also make em with various cages around the clip (candy, acid, quattro, mallet)

crank bros makes great pedals, easy in and out, shed mud well, light. I won't say they are the best simply cause people will disagree with me, so i'll leave that up to individual opinion

I like my Pearl Izumi Quest MTB shoes, as well as my Crank Brothers pedals. I like these pedals over the Shimano SPD pedals I used previously.

I love my Shimano shoes and my shimano spd pedals the 959 are my favorite all though they make a cheaper version that is "almost" identical.

I decided to purchase the Pearl Izumi Quest MTB shoes, which are $65. Since I'm on a budget and I want to get eggbeaters, which model would you recommend? I'd like to stay under $100.

Is the Eggbeater C Black a good choice? It's $55.

You can get PD-M520 pedals for $20-$25 on ebay. They shed mud well and have a really solid feel to them when you clip in.

Any SPD Compatible mounting system shoe. Eggbeaters use the same mounting pattern as the SPD cleat.
