54 on a downhill, though I will never get there again. I've done 30+ on a level road in a paceline for several miles many times. That to me, is the ultimate.

about 100 km/h on a descent. it was insane, haiey, exhilarating... and i'm never doing it again. [long, perfectly paved, straight road in vermont, with nary a sign of traffic].

I have hit 57mph on the 1st pass of the Death Ride. Looking to hit 60+ mph this year!! For a flat road I think I had a little tail wind it was 35mph.

Hit 52mph this weekend off the peak of the Davis DC, could have been higher, but I hit some cross winds and Mavic Ks aren't too hot in cross winds and I was grabbin' for the brakes, previously my high was 48 several times. 32 on the flat, no wind. Have to agree with the above poster, high speed pacelines are a thrill... :D

I've done 50mph just a few times. It's best to do where there's a steep decline followed immediately by an incline, then you obviously don't have to worry as much about stopping.

recent speed maxs:
mostly flat, very slight decent: 61km/h (38.125mph) and maintained for 10+kms.
decent: 84kmh (51.25mph).... love the rush.. but won't be doing it again soon.. :D

Strange---going 30mph on a bike seems like you're flying and feels dangerous------yet I don't think twice about doing 80mph on a motorcycle.

Before anybody get their shorts in a bunch---the speed limit on the interstate here is 75mph----so 80 is only 5 over.

Decending... 92 km/h. It's a weird feeling slowing from that speed and leaning into a hairpin.

On the flat... no idea, somewhere around 50km/h.

hit 49 on a down hill.
I was on my litespeed 2 weeks ago, cop passed me going my direction, About 2 miles later, I saw him about 1/2 mile down the road hidden behind a fence. I started sprinting & as I passed, I noticed he had radar gun on me. I then slowed down. About half mile down road, cop passed me with a big grin & hollered "33!" (35 mph zone). I've been up to 35 level - but only for a short distance.

Jeez you guys are fast! My top speed on a downhill is only 45 kph, but then again, I'm riding a ten speed thats almost as old as I am (29).

Top speed on flat with my mountain bike knobbies and all was 28mph solo no wind on a downhill 8% grade with good pavement over 40mph (my old computer won't go over 40) 3-4% grade 36mph(cadence 110)
Normaly on the flats I can't maintain more than 17 for long stretches(even with smoothies[tires]) and 22-25mph for more than a couple blocks but hey its a mtb.

No real good, safe downhills around here (plenty of hills though.)

geared downhill, geared 38.5 mph
flat sprint, geared is also 38.5 mph

Fixed gear max depeneds on the gearing but my Mirage should top me off at a hair over 40 mph downhill
and I've hit the mid-30's on the flats.

My fastest speed achieved going up a hill improved to 30.5 mph while working on my sprint speed.

For an internet challenge I did a sprint test. Using a 39 x 17t, starting from a dead stop to your quickest acceleration to max speed in that gear. My six 1/10th of a mile runs averaged out to 30.5 mph at about 155 rpms.

According to my bike's computer: 88.9mph

Given my moniker, you may have guessed it's a wireless that glitches. And you'd be right. :)

It is wierd, I used to race motorcycles, we would routinley hit speeds over 160 mph on the straightaways at tracks such as Road Atlanta etc.. People would ask, whats it like? Honestly, It was pretty dull after a while, until it was time to brake for the ensuring corner!!!

Motorcycles have a suspension. Likewise, those who ride fully suspended mountain bikes may go faster downhill than those who ride a rigid frame, because of the way the suspended bike absorbs the bumps.

Maximum speeds:

- On the flat, little or no wind: 35 km/h. If I'm in the right mood and on smooth asphalt, I'm able to sustain 30 km/h for a few kilometres. But my cruising speed (alone) is about 20 km/h

- Downhill by myself: 80 km/h once; 50-60 km/h depending on road quality;
- Downhill with loaded single bike + trailercycle: 70 km/h a few times (ideal conditions), though 50 km/h is a safer speed for bumps, driveways, deer...
- Downhill with loaded single bike + trailercycle + child trailer : 55 km/h a few times.

Maximum speeds:

- On the flat, no wind: 35 mph. Dog #1 quits at 28 mph, Dog #2 quits at 33 mph. Dog #3 - my Greyhound is faster than me, and I quit at 35 mph.

- If I'm in the right mood and on smooth asphalt, I'm able to sustain 26 mph for a few miles. But my cruising speed (alone) is about 18~20 mph.

- Downhill by myself coming out of the Blue Ridge 72 mph was the limit on the computer, and it reached it!

- On the tandem, cruise around 26 mph. Fastest on the tandem around 52 mph.

- On my recumbent, I have hit 38 mph.

50 downhill has been my max so far... Haven't been able to find much in the way of nice long downhills with smooth asphalt. Though there is a ride I am planning that includes a 11 mile decent at an avg gradient of 6%, so that should be fun.... :)

30mph on a flat, no wind, held for about 6miles, nearly blew chunks.
47mph downhill, pedal assisted, in heavy fast traffic.

54mph on a downhill, the Brockway Grade between Kings Beach and Truckee.
32mph on a flat without a draft, attempting to bridge a gap on an extremely hard River Ride.
