I'm surprised. Apparently he broke his collarbone today. Sad! Think it will knock him out of the TDF?

there are posts... but i'm getting tired of the drivel here on BF, so i lurk more and post less...

other than that, my 70-year-old riding buddy and i did a nice 20-miler today at a good 17mph pace (running down snowbird minivans in the park)...

i hope lance heals quickly - and no, it won't knock him out of the TDF, as it's not until July...

What happens to that young whippersnapper is of no interest to the 50+ forum. He's still got 14 years till anything he does is our concern.

But they're yapping it up in the Professional Riding forum. Check it there (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=523204).

As I'm working the night shift, I slept all day and haven't kept up with the news. What little time I've spent on-line has been on BF as I seem to be addicted to and enjoy the drivel here.

I certainly hope Lance heals well from this hopefully temporary set-back.

If it were me, this year's TDF would be ruled out.
I mean---> wouldn't be able to watch it on Versus.

I hope he's healed for the TdF. I've been keeping up with today's event on facebook.

I hate to see anyone get knocked out by an injury. Whatever else you may say about LA, he's tough--as are all pros it seems. I hope he comes back in time for the TDF.

Will he do it? Good question, as he's a very determined individual.

Wouldn't surprise me...unless he has unforeseen complications.

My guess is that he'll be back in time to ride the TdF. The Giro 'd Italia is more in question as it comes in May. Not out of the question, but much more at risk.

There is one other thread about this on 50+ (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=523362) posted by stapfam, but the title is some vague reference that keeps it from being recognizable.

Broke My Clavicle at about his age. Maybe a bit older. It took seven weeks to heal and 12 weeks before I felt comfortable enough to throw with my right arm. And I was out of shape. Butit took a lot longer to stop worring about breaking it again.

rookie...
he'll have to do it 4 more times before he catches me...:twitchy:

sides TDF wasn;t the program, no doubt he really wants a Pink Jersey...
but that still puts him some 450 Pro victories behind Eddy, a bit of catchup
I get the feelin he just can;t live as being just another good rider... and determination is always to be admired... if itz tempered by pinch of real humility. he ain;t that
if he's tough enough, he'll give it a go anyway... he snot gettin any younga
his break should let him get back on the bike in a couple weeks, for easy fitness and re'-training work.
if he don;t screw with surgery
**** happens...
cycling goes on

It was mentioned in the "Professional Cycling" group Monday morning.

Broken collarbones (especially clean breaks like Lance has) don't keep pro riders down very long, they are usually riding again in a couple of weeks.

Surgery required.........probably no TDF.

Drivel...is that what collects on my chin when I'm climbing hills?

In 2003 I broke my collarbone. After 8 weeks I rode a century... in 2005 I had to have the same collarbone plated (it didn't heal - mmmm might have had something to do with training for a century) and within 4 weeks I was riding (the plating was easier to recover from than the break). I was 50+ when I first broke my collarbone. Of course there are "good" breaks and bad but I can't imagine it will keep Lance down unless he wants to. He can still ride a trainer.

Maybe his topnotch surgeons will work some surgical voodoo on him.

There's a guy in Europe, Spain I think. He has come up with an aggressive way of treating collarbone injuries. I'd bet Lance goes to him and is back on the bike in 2 or 3 weeks.

Aw, c'mon, Tyler Hamilton already rode to a second place in the Giro w/ a broken collarbone, so all Lance has to do is win the thing.... (and if he tries it, wait for the carabinieri to come snooping around just when the race starts getting interesting...) :innocent:

He said "it hurt like hell". I can attest to that - broke mine last year and definitely the worst pain I've ever experienced.

Actually, in the Giro that was a broken scapula...he broke his collarbone in the Tour de France (and only finished 4th....:))

This won't keep Lance out of the Tour at all...actually you can get back on the bike quicker if you have surgery (not sure if that's the plan for him though). Having been through this (at 54) I'd agree with Pamestique's assessment...it won't keep him down that long. I had a non-union fracture but the doctor felt it would heal without surgery, so I did 8 weeks in a sling...the day the doctor told me I could lose the sling I went for a ride. (And I did a lot of trainer time in the interim.) Lance is right...it's pretty painful. But it's much worse the first week or two than afterwards.

Saw this morning that it was not a clean break, Dr. said it would be like putting a puzzle back together with all the pieces. but surgery scheduled for tomorrow.
