Our tv croaked, bless its soul, and we're going to be getting a new 32''-37'' flat screen. I decided I wanted some semi surround sound. The TV is on one wall and our sound system(receiver, tape player, cd player) are in a case on the parallel wall. One bose speaker and top, one in the opposite corner. I figured the best way is to run a cable from the TV to the sound system and then use the speakers through the sound system when we want to watch a movie. How do I do this? I have 0 electronic experience. Do I need anything other than cable to do this? I'm going to run the cable along the wall onto the ceiling and staple it down. Detailed how-to needed pweez.

There's an audio out on the back of the TV. It could be HDMI, analog, or optical, but there is an audio out. Just run that to one of the "audio ins" on your receiver.

Will the sound be able to come out of the TV aswell though? I can just run an audio wire from my tv to one of the audio ins on my receiver? then to use it through the speaker I just fiddle with buttons?

On a flat screen its an HDMI I believe. What kind of cable do I need?

don't think the TV speakers will work, but I could be wrong

Well, on a flat screen, you get a ton of connectors. Easiest way is either HDMI or optical, as there is only 1 cable to run.

On a flat screen its an HDMI I believe. What kind of cable do I need?If it has an HDMI port, it will most likely have a ton of other outputs as well. Optical, coaxial, and stereo RCA. If it's a nicer stereo, you can use the HDMI, optical, or coaxial ports. If it's nothing special or old, you can use the stereo output. If it's a line-out, the stereo volume will work independent of the television monitor volume.
