Road Cycling - Most expensive bike you've ridden with?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
A chap on Sunday's ride was riding one of these:

How this friend Larry got his Merlin..Has a roof mounted car rack..He did the rack thing with the bike attacking a garage door.
His Trek got turned into a Merlin...Think that is a way to get a new Merlin out of your wife?

My cycling coach owns a Colnago C40 with full Record groupset and Ksyrium wheels. Don't care for it really. Most Colnago colour schemes are too garish for my liking. Need sunglasses.

C40 with DA, prototype LEW carbon cranks and wheels, light-light-light everything else. i added it all up retail once--cost more than my car.

I rode a $5,000 Colnago. I am not sure what model it was, but it was mostly carbon and the guy (a friend) who let me ride it quoted me the price.....
It was smooth, I didnt like the shifting and actually was glad when I got back on my Bianchi.
Possibly the fact that the bike was so expensive and I may have been nervous as to riding someone elses bike or it could be I am so used to my bike...
In fact while riding the Colnago my friend was riding my bike and he complimented and said he was rather surprized how smooth and nice my Bianchi was, he said he never rode a Bianchi before and was impressed... I know he didnt ssell his Colnago and go and buy a Bianchi, But still it was a nice compliment.

Every time I run across one of your posts it becomes more and more obvious that you are the west coast me. Similarly, a guy in my group rides and Ottrott. He's a big time poser, but God bless him for his sense of taste.

either the one-of-a-kind indy fab BMX bike that my friend has, just because it's the ONLY bmx bike that they ever made to the best of my knowledge, or one of his Ti trials bikes.
a messenger friend of mine has (had?) a merlin with full '03 record and ksyriums, but i never rode with him when he was on it, and he might've sold it. he also has a carter track frame with full record pista that's pretty nice. he probably put like, $2000 into it...then his fork crown broke...same kid also bought a second merlin (to use as a winter beater bike) and carried it home on his back while riding his custom harry havnoonian track with colnago carbon flash fork, phil hubs laced to cxp33s, all black. i suppose maybe the combined value of the merlin and that bike might be the most expensive bike i've ridden with...other than that, i'd say that kid's carter was probably the most expensive single bike.
Every time I run across one of your posts it becomes more and more obvious that you are the west coast me.
Very cool. Do you have a sick sense of humor also?

2 Seven Axiom 007 Ti Tandems: $8,900+

I used to ride with a guy with a Ti Rush long wheel base recumbent. I don't know what it cost, but I believe it was in the $5K range.
I once rode with a guy (bike shop manager) who was riding a Litespeed Vortex. Good thing it doesn't rust because I was drooling all over it. :)

You betcha ... :D
Serotta Ottrott was by far the most expensive "non custom" bike
I been on a ride with.
There have been other more desirable bikes tho (Richard Sachs, Weigle, one Moon).
all of em made me sick in an envious kind of way, and I'm not on either coast.

Yup,
My wife and I did a short ride last night with three other tandem teams. Our $6,000 Santana Noventa was the cheapie bike in that pack. I assume the top biller was a custom size, titanium, S&S take-apart. You'd be talking REAL money to replicate that one.

I'd guess that of the people I ride with quite regularly, a good number have bikes that range in price from 5-7 thousand. I personally have three separate road bikes that if you were to price them out would all fall into a similar price rage. If you were to show up to a Saturday morning group ride in my area on a Serotta, Seven, Moots, Colnago, Merckx, etc... with full DA or Record, no one would think twice about it.

Rode for a while, about 10 miles, last year with two college girls. One was on a Litespeed Tuscany and the other was on a De Rosa. The girl on the De Rosa said it cost her a little over 6 Grand. I felt like such a stooge, a 57 year old guy on a $450 Trek Navigator riding along with two 20 year old girls on over 10 grand worth of bike!

A friend of mine just got a Ferarri Edition Colnago C-50. Carbon everything...... In this incredible black and yellow fade. I think he ordered it from R A cycles in new york.
My present bike. Serotta Colorado Legend Ti. Appraised for $5500 in 93 when I ordered the bike. I moved over my 8 spd Dura Ace STI groupo to this bike. Presently the bike had over 20K miles on it. In 01 I upgraded to 9 speed STI as the original 8 speed had worn out. Changed the front fork to a carbon frork, and added Shimano WH7700 wheels to the mix.

Believe it or not, but there are now 2 of these beasts in our Saturday morning ride. Not bad for a limited edition bike, and we are on the other side of the world to where they are made. Their list price was $15,000 AUD.

you guys need to take a ride in central park on a nice summer day. not only will you see every top-of-the-line and custom made bike from pinarello, serotta, colnago, seven, merlin, litespeed, orbea, derosa, felt, waterford etc, all equipped with top components, but you get to see them ridden by middle-aged wall street types with 20% body fat and lots of cash to burn.
i like checking out their bikes as i pass them or watching them still sitting on the same bench as i do lap after lap after lap.

This'll make you drool...early this morning I rounded a bend on the trial. Ahead of me about 25 yards was an unbelievable sight. A young blonde women on in-line skates, short, skin tight shorts and halter top was skating along. It was a sight to behold. All of a sudden, she bent over from the waist, and wrapped her arms around her calves and kept on moving. I mean to tell you I almost went into the fence! I must have made an odd sound because she glanced at me, then stood up suddenly. I had no option but to say "On your left," and pass her.
B&A Trail, Severna Park, Maryland. And yes I know I am a dirty old man. So what? ;)

A guy I worked with at the shop for a while did a custom build up with a Colnago C45 frame (he's a TT/Tri guy) Full carbon Record, Reynolds wheels and every trick little thing you can think of on there. As a shop employee he got good deals on everything and he still managed to drop over $6000! I figure the retail on that one was probably approaching $10,000!!! It was a pretty slick looking bike and he let me ride it a little (though I couldn't handle the extreme seat to bar drop he had it setup with) It's nice to have ridden a bike worth almost 10 grand because chances are I will never be able to afford one myself.
