Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - How many of us here are over 300 lbs...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Just out of curiosity, how many of us here are ovr 300 lbs. Personally, I currently weigh in at 363 down from my highest of 392. Actually got down to 347 last summer, but took a couple of lbs over the winter months. Maybe we can start a thread, motivate ourselves to become that lean 290 that we know is inside of us! Hee hee.
Cheers everyone!
Eric...
335 as of Monday my high has been 345 @ 6'
302 this morning, down from 349 in September. I am 5'-11". Target is (*gulp*) 215....

My heaviest was 385 just over 7 months ago. I am now passing 340 on the way down.
I have lost in excess of 30 pounds in the last month. Of course, the lapband and it beginning liquid diet have helped tremendously.
My target weight is 220, and I would be absolutely ecstatic if I could exceed my target and get down to 180-190.
336 as of this morning @ 6'2". I've been as heavy as 355 and spent most of the winter around 345. I had been down to 325 last year (following a nasty strep infection when I basically didn't eat for about 5 days) but went rather inactive through the winter. I had been suffering some pre-diabetic symptoms that have abated since I started following Mark Sisson's Primal Diet plan. For the last 6 weeks, the symptoms have abated and I've lost about 2lbs a week.
With more regular commuting and this new dietary plan, I'm hoping for <300 by the end of the summer.
My regular ride is a 2008 Jamis Aurora. I enjoy the stability and geometry of the sport touring frame and cushy ride of the steel and wide-ish tires. I still have a 2005 aluminum Trek 7300FX which I rarely ride anymore because I find it a bit small for me, the geometry is rough on my back and the frame material makes the ride unforgiving on the roads in my area, despite the 700 x 35 tires. Additionally, I've found that on that ride, the componentry is not optimal for a cylde (I'm convinced that this bike was manufactured to be a garage ornament and not bicycle to be ridden.)

My peak was 421... probably a little higher as I gave up soft drinks and started eating somewhat better before I first started Weight Watchers, and got on a scale that could weigh me.
I am currently at just under 350 and dropping from a recent peak of 362. I have been to just under 300, before a period of back sliding and depression...
My ultimate goal is to be half the man I used to be. ;)
6' and 370 down from 398 last year. (I'd made it down to 360, but holidays happen)
I'm just putting the finishing touches on the Nashbar Touring Frame build for my main bike.
Up until now I've been riding the Hardrock and the Trek 1220.
I don't know if I count, but I was once about 400 pounds, and dropped to 242 a year and a half ago. I'm now in the mid 280s, and trying to get back to 240.

Im somewhere just north of 300. Not weighing myself til after the triathlon. Some of the muscle building shifts weight from fat, and its a bit counteractive to weigh myself while im working out. Ive really started watching my food, and hitting the pool harder now that im feeling better.

Been as high as 305 @6'1" sitting around 220 looking forward to non clyde wieght.
310 @ just shy of 6' as of this morning. I was up to 350 last year(largest ever). Shooting to loose 70 lbs this year and ride over 2100 miles. I actually went in the 295-298 range a few times over the last 4 months but will not post as being under 300 until I weigh in there for at least 2 weeks straight.
Welcome to the Uber Clyde Club, we are a force to be reckoned with :D
Huge dedication. Colossal confidence. Copious amounts of commitment. Abundant acceleration and substantial speed,Truly a ton of fun, we be!

I weigh around 300-310. I haven't been on a scale since I saw I went north of 300. I used to be very active and fit for my muscle mass and frame at around 220-225. That's where i would love to get back to. I just purchased (as in last night) a 09 Trek 7.2FX w/ child carrier. Its amazing how little kids can really pack a few pounds onto a guy. Since my wife became pregnant back around spring 07, I have gained almost 50 pounds. I was ~260 at a physical right after Christmas 06. Currently my daughter is 13 months old and just big enough to fit into the rack mounted child carrier. I plan to ride at least 3 times a week this summer once Mon-Thur, Once on Friday (my day at home with the kid) and once on Sat-Sun.
Its been a while since I have regularly ridden a bike (about 5-6 years). In college I had a Trek 4300 mountain that i would ride to class and around the parks on the weekends.
My goal is to get down to below 275 by the end of summer.

312 this morning. @ 5'11 or so.
I was 340 about a year ago. Didn't really make any serious weight loss efforts until January though.
I haven't weighed in awhile, but I'm pretty sure I'm still over 300.
315 last time I weight myself a couple of weeks ago, but I was down to 298 before winter hit.

Just a vote from us "little" guys, I never got to 300, closest I came was 260, that was scary enough... Currently 220 and wanting to start heading back down... Bored with the trainer, and looking toward the summer riding season...
My high was 375, currently sitting at 287. Keep at it and you can lose it.

I was at 313 when I started riding again in December 2007. I am 230 now. I am not sure where I will stop. I definitely have more to lose, I am just not sure how much. I will know when I get there.
371 was my known peak on record ! now at 243 and falling . IF I can lose that much anyone can !!
I started fathers day last year.

330lb now - about as big as I've ever been. Part of the motivation for getting a bike is to get that under control.
(The other part is a memory of the freedom and fun of tootling around on a bike. I had a single speed beach cruiser in college with big Wald wire panniers and basket. I put that poor beast through seven levels of hell... I used it like a pickup truck, commuted everyday to work and school, rain and shine and Florida heat.)

with will, diet, and the power of bicycles weight can be lost fellow comrades. 2 years ago I weighed close to 320lb but then I became fed up and started to rebound on a Needak trampoline and bicycle on a trek hybrid 7100. now I am 190lb and I am about to start riding a kilo tt.

Dlester and Pipes,
how much of a difference do you notice? I mean have you been cycling all that time and do you notice being able to ride faster? You are both heading where I want to be.
For me just now is getting my diet right. I am doing a lower carb diet (not atkins about 40g of carbs on non bike ride days, if I ride I will bump it up 10-20g of carbs) and the problem I have had especially this week is that I cant eat enough calories. (I am eating leaner meats like chicken and fish) 2 days ago I eat plenty to satiate me and it only clocked in about 1200 calories, yesterday I have about 30 net carbs (50 gross) and I only clocked in at abpout 14-1500 calories. I picked this style of diet as it seemed to work best for me of all the diets I ever did, at my heaviest 323 I went on the atkins and got to 280 but I quit it and over time I gradually rose back to what I was just after christmas (309). So far it seems to be working though (293 as of last sunday)

Hey Guys, Cycle like hell and watch what you eat, Do the right thing, Im 180lbs at 5' 10"
I am around 340 and hoping to stop working at weight loss in little spurts and really commit to it as soon as I settle down in one place. I love the clyde forum but having a over 300lb thread would be great. :thumb:
Hey Justiceman, how did you like the rebounder and did it hold up under your weight? I was thinking of getting one for morning cardio for myself and wondered if they were any good.

OMG yes Iam faster I can stand up on the pedals going over bumps almost like I was a kid now ! I feel much better and I fell better about myself . Yes I started the change in my life the day I got my bike last year on fathers day . IMO I could just not lose the weight without my bike ! Thou my wife just went over the 100 # lost mark and she don"t ride go figure .
This is just my 2 cents but I never eat just to eat now if your NOT hungry and eating enough to satisfy you then thats fine IMHO . I got stupid and was doing 1000 calories a day for 6 months . I had to bump that up it got me !!! Iam now eating about 1400 to 1800 calories a day avg 1550 . and I lost 3 lbs last 8 days so ya you can eat more depending on your activy level and need to .
It also helped me BIG TIME to start tracking what I eat on livestrong.com the daily plate section its fantastic IMO anyway .
It a feel great when you gotta go buy all new clothes I have droped from a 58 waist to a 44 or 46 depending on the maker .
Your off to a great start and I know it seems like you will never get there BUT YOU CAN . Just change your life not just your diet . Iam not on a diet I hate the word I am on a life changing mission .
Good luck its worth it belive me and YOU can do it .

It is good to see Cycle enthusiests here who are alot like me in size. I usually don't see large people riding. Anyway, I weigh in between 310-315 and stand 5'11". Pretty round for my height. My problem is I need to be more active. I bought my bike in order to help with weight loss. I just need to ride more often. This is a good start. Finding people my size and larger are loosing poundage by active cycling. Thanks for the inspiration.

I bet none of us did either. Glad you got a jump on it.
Nocturnal - congrats on the new ride, shes a beauty.
Its great to see a thread like this, I think it should be a sticky so others that come by can see there are other people their size safely riding bikes and taking control of there health AND having FUN.
Congrats to everyone for riding.

Was at my highest in fall '06 = 440. Had medical intervention that got me to 325 and to the point where I started biking in spring '07. Started on a dept. store Schwinn cruiser, thinking I'd need a tougher, thicker frame to handle things. Was a good investment - sturdy and cheap, but the more I rode, the better I handled things and moved on to a road bike, then a folder.
Fast forward past two biking seasons, a few 5k runs, and an 18-mile-one-way commute to work occasionally, and I'm 265, just bought a new "toy" - a Lime with pink detailing, just for fun.
It's all in how you approach it. Last summer I did a LOT of riding - put nearly 500 miles on my Raleigh. But ate a regular (not overdone) diet and maintained. The bike definitely kept me from gaining, so it was a victory for me.
My ideal weight is somewhere between 180-200 (I'm a tall girl) - so my focus this summer is to try and do even more by bike and cut back on my daily calories a tad and see where that takes me.
Most of all, just have fun with what you're doing. I didn't get on the bike expecting it to be my weight loss tool - I just woke up one day and felt like trying it again and got hooked :). The day I missed my bus connection and had to finish the 18 miles to work on my pink Schwinn - across a highway bridge and serious hills - was the day that completely changed the way I look at what's possible. I was in the 280's at the time. And I rode 18 miles consecutively in an hour and half without keeling over. Was a pretty cool moment.

Right now I am between 305 and 310 pounds. I will start riding as of this week as I just got my bike and I hoping to be in the 260 range by the end of summer. No sure if that is realistic but I will shoot for that with riding bike and lifting weights.

I am so glad you asked. Most people don't realize how effective rebounding is. It is one of the few exercises that works out your whole body, and it stimulates your lymphatic system. It is one of the key components in my exercise regiment and I attribute tons of weight loss to it. It certainly helps with cardio and improves your endurance, and balance. In fact I am addicted to it. I literally have to rebound everyday because it makes me feel so good. It is also really good to use for warm ups and warm downs before and after a heavy bicycle ride. If I were you I would get the hard bounce(but keep in mind its fairly hard) because you might touch the ground with the soft bounce(based on my own experience when I weighed that much). Make sure not to cheap out on a crappy rebounder because you don't want it to break on you. Make sure the rebounder is made to withstand people over 300lb. Try to rebound for atleast 10 minutes a day if not more. Rebounding to electronica music is what I do haha.

2/01/2005 - I was at a high of 452.
5/04/2005 - 352
8/25/2005 - 310
3/01/2009 - 390
3/31/2009 - 379
I have ranged from high 300's to 330 from the end of '05 to now. I have decided that after going to the doctor for the first time in 9 years!! That i dodged a speeding bullet! All my vitals and blood work came back perfect except for my HDL (good cholesterol) which was a little low. My BP is in the 140/75 range so that is alittle high as well. So i was completly worried about sugar and bad cholesterol and High Blood pressure. So i feel like i have been given a second chance! So i have now decided to take it off again and keep it off with a life style change and practice what i used to preach. I have started back at the gym 6 days a week at the begining of the month and plan to get back on the bike this week. I can always loose weight fast and efficently but i wanna do it one last time before i am over 30. I am 25 now and want to do it one last time.

310 or so at the moment... 6'3ish was down to 285 just before november... stayed under 300 till new years when my wife started a new job which killed nearly all my free time to go ride :-/... was 335+ this time last year though... just started a job (been looking for about 4 months... hope to be commuting to work here very soon... and be hitting the weights again... assuming readjust my diet (it'd gotten pretty bad) I should start trimming down bit by bit.
Hey Big Lug, seems like we are at the same point. Never got into the 400's but have been close. I am current;y sitting at 364 and my bike comes on Friday. (Thought it was last friday but my broken Korean cost me a trip to my LBS to find out next friday wasn't the one comming up but the one in the following week. I was a bit sad but we have had a cold snap so... maybe it was a god send.
Let's all try and keep ourselves motivated!
Eric,...
I've had a long history of being overweight, dating back to at least early in high school. I always ate a lot, but also exercised a lot so it wasn't a huge issue until I busted up my leg in '91, then gained about 75 pounds after getting the cast (but not the screws) removed. From there its been pretty much downhill.
I reckon I topped out last September at about 385-ish or so. I started walking at the Y every day, quickly lost 30# the first month, then started working at Wally World and lost another 30 pounds by Thanksgiving.
But since right before Christmas, when I weighed about 305, I've hit a brick wall. Since then I've fluctuated between 305 and 320. When I was losing weight earlier I was seriously dehydrated and having real problems with dehydration, blood pressure, blood sugar, etc. Eating more helped that but then....I stopped losing weight. So far I haven't slid backwards yet, still feel good, my endurance at work is better than ever, clothes still fit better, but.....I haven't managed to break out. It's become a bit of a psychological barrier now, that 300# mark. I really want to bust out because I haven't been under 300 since probably 1996 or so, save for a few short months in summer of 2000.
I've got a lot of muscle mass on a relatively small-boned frame, so my ideal weight is probably about 190 lbs give/take. I figure I was at my physical peak my sophomore year in college (1988-89) at about 205-210, could ride the bike nearly forever, ran up/down the basketball court for hours, etc - all this in spite of scarfing down 5-7 thousand calories a day :)

I was in the 280's at in January of this year (I know this thread is for 300), now I am down to 245 as of this morning. I started with eating better and lost the first 25 and now I found that I enjoy cycling. I am now contemplating with which model to buy to replace my 1995 Schwinn MTM bike with. Possibly a Trek 7.1 or 7.2? Anyways, I think I have found a good way to burn off these calories. :)
Hey Tom, If you say that you were constantly dehydrated, there's your problem! You are not getting enough water. Your body was sending you a message to drink, but we are programmed to confuse the "I'm thirsty" signal with the "I'm hungry" signal. Of course a nice juicy double delys cheese burger is far more satisfying than a glass of water but It's not what we need. Our body will use the relative humidity that it need but as it doesn't need the nutrients it gets stored and we wind up in our situation... +300. Next time you are dehydrated , drink a gallon of water if you need (Just don't give yourself cramps) it solves the dehydration, it fills the tummy and won't pack on the lbs.
Cheers,
Eric...
