I'm trying to get my miles up for a couple of long rides next month and this happens every week. Oh well I guess I'll just get the Cross Bike out and spin in the rain.

With temperatures like those, I'd simply pull out the rain gear and ride. I'd try to avoid open stretches of road so as not to be a lightening rod, but I'd probably ride.

Thats a high temp so as long as the wind keeps down- go and ride. And if you get wet- remember- That is what Goretex was made for.

Our Highs in the 50's we have had for the last few weeks have gone- Down into the low 40's and wind with some rain for the next month. Roll on winter when the weather does what it is supposed to.

I've been getting highs in the 40s and 50s and lows in the 20s. Too bad about the rain, but better you than me.

We're looking at good weather (High 72, low 54) for the double century this weekend (Mar. 28th) and 0% chance of rain. Probaby fight a headwind from Solvang to Morrow Bay and ride the tail-wind back to Buellton.

This is only Wed., however, so the forecast has plenty of time to change.

Rick you know the weather doesn't change much here...it's beautiful out. Perfect CA spring weather. It's a crazy state for many reasons but the weather is good! :thumb:

True Pam,

Yet I remember a Solvang Double about 3 years ago that was forecast for great weather the week before, and then we fought a headwind and pouring rain for five or six hours. I'll never forget the bit between San Luis Obispo and Morrow Bay . . . the wind and rain were just brutal :notamused:.

I was riding with far too much effort/speed, mostly just trying to stay warm, and I was burned out by lunch (mile 107) but on the bright side, I was (if I remember right) the 5th or 6th rider into lunch.

The last 80 miles were suffering of one degree or another and at the end I could barely hold my upper body off the handlebars . . . pretty pathetic, really. I must have looked really awful because a couple miles from the finish a rider went by me and shouted, "Don't give up, you're almost to the finish!"

Then I had to fly to Chicago for business the next day, drive the rental to Milwaukee, etc. then back to Chicago for a distributor's Open House . . . It's amazing what we go through to have a little fun on a bike ride :).

ha ha... whatever I get you usually get about 4 hours later. So that means that by the time you see my reply you are running for cover.

Hi spoke50,
Like Pam and rick have been alluding to, we have great weather this time of year in Southern California. Why not give our area a try? You would adjust just fine considering that Alabama is a southern state and we are talking Southern California.

Here's what I wore when I left home this morning at dawn (42 degrees, steady rain):

- boots
- wool socks
- tights and biking shorts
- base layer
- wool jersey
- Showers Pass jacket
- Showers Pass hood
- wool cap
- Helmet w/rain cover
- full finger gloves

Headed home tonight it will be dry and 45 degrees so I can de-layer a bit.

Hard to believe it's "spring."

Spoke50,

You trying to make some of us feel bad? I was kind of looking forward to tomorrow night's 2 hour ride @ 48 degrees with only a 60% chance of showers, heck, the winds are only going to be 12 mph..

^^supose your right, it's not southern cal, but there isn't many days during the year that is too cold to ride at all.

We are having a few days of rain right now, but I welcome the chance for some of the pollen to be washed from the trees and from the coating on my car's windshield and flat surfaces. Not that it will go away any time soon. In fact, I am quite sure that the worst is yet to come. More runny noses, sore throats, gravelly voices and spitting phlegm in the forecast. But the flowers and trees sure are pretty. :)

I'm leading a club ride on Sunday afternoon and I haven't pre-ridden the route yet. Friday is the only day of the week where I work a full day.

On the other hand, it's still March. Any day above freezing is a good day.

33 degrees when I left home this morning. Just barely above freezing.

Its 46 now and I'm heading out. Need to ride as I signed on for the Philly LSC. March in Ohio...they say "if you don't like the weather, wait a minute it'll change". I'll take the upper 40's and 50's though, better than we've been having.

Must be nice, WINTER has returned now that's it close to being April! It's SNOWING huge flakes outside the window, their talking up to 12+ inches of snow between Today and Friday afternoon, so much for SPRING!

Rain hasn't been a problem here. Wind has. Everyday this week, we've had wind 15-20mph with gusts 25-35.

I was thinking that too.

 Geeze I thought the idea of snow was bad but now we got ICE!! The snow in march is WET here in southern CO. , it snowed lightly, then we had 50+mph winds which just turned the snow into a 2 inch. thick layer of ice, man it's really ugly out there and we have to MOVE tomorrow (Sat.), BUMMER. Looks like the bicycle is not going anywhere as it's still snowing a little and quite windy:( Gona freeze our bunns off moving, nothing like handing boxes on an ice skating rink, YIKES!:twitchy:
