A year I bought a Dell XPS M1330 running Vista. It crashed occasionally and done funny things. Years ago I would have obliterated the partition and re-installed what I needed but I can't be bothered with that any more. SP1 came out, it was installed, then it started crashing more frequently. I sold it and promptly purchased an iMac. I was supposed to use it as heavily as I used my Dell but due to circumstances, the only work I could do would be on a laptop.
2 days ago I bought a Macbook.
Today as I was researching software to buy, it was reinforced that macs don't have a whole bunch of software. There IS every piece of software you need but there is possibly somethng lacking in it. Eg no chrome, no latest version of photoshop elements, no flight sim x, no .net, no premiere elements and so on. Ps there are equivalents (x plane, java, fnal cut express etc but they're either not as good or I'm not familiar with those pieces of software.
So I started thinking of returning my MB - afterall what's the point of running an OS if you don't like using the apps? Then I started thinking back to all those crashes (on XPS) and I got home to listen to my wife's Dell humming loudly in the background (probably the fans kicked in due to some rogue process ahem anti virus software).
I'll keep the mac: it's UI is more responsive, it doesn't crash (as often as windows), I don't need AV software. The compromise will have to be either older software (pse6) or unfamiliar software (fce). I'll get to be re-acquainted with unix and I'll have a nice looking machine to too.
Atleast that's how I'm convincing myself right now.
EDIT: corrected spelling mistakes (I was using iPhone) and took out silly joke (it was funny at the time :))
