I recently found that Stanford has a Human Performance Lab that will do VO2, Lactate Thresholds, Body Composition, and other tests for us amateurs. The lab is the same one that trains, tests and rehabs athletes from the Stanford Athletic Dept.

http://humanperformance.stanford.edu/

1) Is anyone familiar with this lab or have been tested by them? What was your experience?

2) Are these tests worth getting to help with a person's training?

My completely biased opinion is that performance testing in UC schools is better. :p

You have to make an appointment. Their fitting is very good. Many local teams and domestic pros get their fitting and testing done at UCD. Their fitting gives numbers that you can use to adjust all your bikes to. If you bring in your bike I believe they will adjust your bike for you as well. They also work with your shoes and cleat position.

I will reinforce what Val said. Judd Van Sicke does a lot of the fittings and he's very good. He is the coach for the UC Davis Cycling team, holds a masters in Biomedical Engineering and is also the personal coach of several pro riders include and Garmin rider who's name escapes me at the moment. He knows his biomechanics very well and will be able to dial in your fit. I think the initial fitting will be done on a stationary bike to get the required numbers and then your bike can be adjusted to the findings.

anyone have any idea how much those tests would cost and if it is available for anyone? I'm going back to uc davis this fall, but stanford is just across the dumbarton for me. I'm only a recreational rider, but I'd be interested in knowing the information.

The UCD program looks to be very bike-centric.:thumb:

I like their Cycling Package very much. Maybe it's worth the drive out!? Hmmmmm.....
