Subaru FTW. I should know, I've owned like 7 of them  (I have a fetish with 80s Subarus)

My brother just got one! He loves it so far, but instructed me not to tell anyone at home (Detroit). People are feisty about the foreign car debate, but my brother simply couldn't find a domestic 4 cylinder AWD vehicle.

I remember growing up in the 80's and having people yell obscenities at my mom and dad as we tootled around in our Toyota wagon or cressica. That thing ran probably longer than those *******s lived.

Hmm, I seemed to have missed the updates on the car part of this thread.

For the record, I treat cars as a necessary evil. My bike can't get me up to the mountains skiing or backpacking. I am on my second Outback Sport and we still have our first one ('99) as well. If I have to have cars, these are the best. Almost no maintenance costs and they get me through almost anything.

A few years ago when we go the double blizzards in December, one of my wife's uncles was stranded at DIA and he needed dialysis, having no kidneys. They couldn't get him an ambulance, but we were able to get through and pick him up for a trip to the hospital.

Hey hey all my Denver BF buddies! I'll be in Denver tomorrow camping in our new apartment.

We had originally planned to fly out to find an apartment to live in, but we found one already.

So, now we're coming out from Wednesday until Sunday, and just measuring things, checking out our schools, and I'm headed over to the REI Flagship to see about my transfer.

We'll be living very close to Colorado and Colfax (with the other animals at the zoo! =p). Any recommendations?

We're going to pretend like we're traveling and just use the buses and train. I was considering renting a bike (probably a fred-a-licious bike because I'm cheap) and riding around.

Anyone want to meet up for some brews and watch TDF? Any bars playing it?

Cheers,
Tony

Ok, it looks like the "For Rent" sign on half the duplex across the street from me is down, and I live right by Colorado and Colfax. That would just be too strange...

Where is your place? I am on Garfield St., near 16th. You can sometimes hear the wolves howl at dusk, or even the lions roar. It is pretty cool. Mostly though, we just hear the peacocks.

As for meeting up, I might. I am fighting jet lag (back from Australia) and some virus and trying to prep for the Triple Bypass and another conference next week. PM me and I will let you know.

I don't know of any bars showing the tour. Most of the bars around this neighborhood are more about showing off ink and piercings than sports. Probably find it in a sports bar downtown.

Close I think, but not us. We'll be at 14th and Albion.

Peacocks! We have peacocks living on our street in Detroit. It's a weird sound.

I will likely be without internet, but I'll PM you from a cafe or something. I'll call around to some sports bars. Hopefully they won't laugh too loud when I ask them about watching the tour replay on versus at night...lol.

Cheers.

I doubt you will hear the zoo over there because of the Colorado/Colfax intersection. Still close though.

I just sent you my cell number in a PM.

handlebar and grill (http://www.handlebarandgrill.com/index_A.htm) is showing the TDF. Not the greatest place, but the TDF should be a good distraction. Versus TV schedule (http://www.versus.com/tdf/article/view/758/?ss=tv&tf=body_tdf_schedule.tpl). Don't forget to subtract 2 hours for Mountain Standard Time!!!

Not sure if they're showing LIVE coverage or not, but I kind of doubt it as the stages end before the bar opens -- probably just playing taped race recaps :(. Call them to find out. Or call or stop by a LBS (or 2 or 3) to find out if anyone is showing live coverage.

I'm in "The OC" (SoCal) for work, but welcome to Denver!!!

Well Denver, after a great 5 days of sleeping on an air mattress in our new apartment, you've sold us!

We're bringing the truck out in 11 days! Also, we'll be at the Handlebar and Grille on Sunday morning for breakfast and the the champs-elysees TDF coverage.

Can't wait to get my bike out there (and promptly faint due to the O2 difference)!

Oxygen is overrated. You will soon find it oppressive to visit heavier atmospheres.

Not if there is humidity. You will soon lose your tolerance for that.

Who said I had it in the first place. Recall...I have a head full of dread. It's like wearing a winter hat...all of the time. =p

What is wrong with the Handlebar...great food, great beer, great service in great atmosphere.

Handlebar shows TDF coverage everday.

Come out for the Wednesday night RMCC group ride (http://rmccrides.com/wednesdaynightride.html) and we hit the Handlebar afterward for beers and dinner
