hey
i'm building a 1x9 29er with sram x9 shortcage rear der and x7 shifter and sram pg 950 cassette 11-32 with a 32t chaingring
the problem is when i run the chain through this set up in the smallest cog, i get this sound like it's going to shift up to the next gear, even though i set the limit. and it does this through every gear. i'm using a 9 speed shimano road chain. the drop outs on this bike are horizontal. any advice much appreciated.

Yuor indexing is either slightly off (cable tension) or the wheel is crooked in the dropouts. First make sure the wheel is centered, then readjust the derailleur.

Yeah if the chain keeps trying to up shift it means you have to much tension in the cable.

it works just fine in the highers gears

it works just fine in the highers gears

But if the cable is overtightened and the lower limiter is set high enough, it will prevent it from shifting to where the cable tension is telling it to go, and will work better at lesser tensions.

Is there any sporadic shifting in the middle gears? This could be a telltale sign of this. Also is there a chance the derailleur is bent or the derailleur hanger is loose/bent?
