Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Fight the man! I mean, it was totally your bad for failing to recognize that the big P with the line through it meant no parking and the 11:30am-XX0pm meant that you probably shouldn't park there at 11:36am, but still, you should pull a narcissistic attitude and whine about how unfair everything is.

I'm much more familiar with Michigan laws, but it looks to me like you have a good case. If they are too incompetent to keep graffiti away, and too lazy fo fix it, you should not have to pay the price. You should arrange a magistrate hearing on it for sure. Just call the little number on the ticket, and set it up. The worst thing that could happen is that they'll find you responsible or guilty or whatever they call it in California for parking tickets, and you'll still have to pay it.
It's very simple. Tell the magistrate why it's unfair, and bring your picture. He or she will either drop the ticket, or not. If the ticket isn't tossed out, you may be able to take it to a formal hearing in front of a judge, but I'm not sure what they do over there.
One more reason for bike commuting and living car free.:innocent::innocent:
btw, I do not bike commute, or live car free, but I am a card carrying member of HypocritesUnlimitied.
You easily can get off not paying that ticket. The sign is completely unreadable. I've gotten 3 tickets in california, cops here are looking to make a quota by screwing you over. As I say this i have no real evidence to back it up. But that's the feeling I get. 2 of my tickets to me were completely not justified.

Do you part to end the recession and just pay the ticket.
That's totally messed up that they put the sign sideways like that.

Pay the ticket and be glad you didn't get towed (like a friend of mine did).
You have absolutely nothing to complain about. I can read all of the sign perfectly fine, even sideways as per your 'blog.

Pay the ticket. The sign is legible enough that you should have known not to be parking there at that time, and if you try to fight it, you'll probably lose, and have to pay court costs in addition to the fine.

I concur.
Actually seeing the sign on your blog was clear enough to know after 11.30 am you should not park.
I would be more concered with your driving given your bad eyesight...........:p
I'd fight it, both the time and day are obstructed in your view. Also, It doesn't cost to fight your ticket in court in california, unless im wrong, nothing to lose. I dare to bet you would have read the sign if it wasn't so much blocked by grafitti.

OP, I'm curious- did you see and disregard the sign because it was graffitied, or did you honestly not see it?
Either way, its worth a fight (but realize that it was still wrong, and you might lose the battle). Do you have a court date for the ticket?
That's totally messed up that they put the sign sideways like that.+1

How much is the parking ticket? How much is your time worth?
