Foo - First signs of spring - post a pic

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

To me, the first crocus that pops up is always the first sign of spring. What represents the first sign of spring in your area? Post a pic.

You must have something that indicates a change of season, even in Texas.

April is traditionally paddling season, when the water level is regularly up. The first downriver race is tomorrow (I haven't competed in a while).
Here is a pic from early April, some time ago. The weather alternated from overcast to snow to overcast and back to bright sun. Temps were about 40F and the overnight low was about 15F (yes, we camped).

My first sign that its REALLY spring is when my dumbass dog brings up all the newborn bunnies and leaves them, deceased, on the patio. This annual rite of passage occurred yesterday, so now it is Spring. You can all thank me for not posting pics.

Up Mix Canyon the California poppies are blooming! No idea what the purple flowers are. Lupins? Where's Red Rider? She knows her plants.

Would y'all like pictures of my blood shot eyes and incessant runny nose?
I used to love watching crocus shoots popping up through the snow in Feb., blooming in March....the forsythia bushes are popping right now as well.

Plus, everything's nice and green before it gets all dead and brown in the summer.

OK, firstly I just woke up. Don't have my glasses on yet. Too lazy to get them. So I'm going to ask ... what the heck are those animals in the middle of the pic? The one on the right looks to me like a wild boar, but the other two look like a weird experiment gone wrong. A cross between a duck-billed platapus and hippo?

Nice shot. That looks like a canola field from Saskatchewan. It's really cool when a canola field is planted right beside a field of flax. You get a this amazingly stark colour difference between the crops. Flax is a dark blue when it's flowering.

A couple of weeks ago the plum and apricot trees were blooming:

Turkeys - and yes they are in South Western Ontario. They've got a program releasing them around London/Woodstock area. Seem to be thriving.

I've always been too restless to go turkey hunting. I don't see how people do it. I feel the same way about deer too. This is probably why I hunt flying birds.

Honestly, I just use it as an excuse to sleep under an oak tree all day. If a tom happens to wander by while I'm awake, that's just his tough luck.
I'm with you - my first love is walking after quail and chukar. Second is to spot-n-stalk wild boar. Mmmmmm....
But, back to spring. The pooch and I took a nice hike today in a local 4000 acre regional park. He wore himself out hunting for ground squirrels in the spring grass and wildflowers:

No real good first signs of spring in this state. All the trees are still bare and nasty, other than evergreens. The skunks are finally coming out. There are lots of fat people here, so swimming season isn't that special. The only real benefit is that the snow is gone. :notamused:

Saw a couple of buds yesterday, but everything still seems to be waiting for spring.
Except the people - gorgeous day yesterday and the lakeshore bike path was full. Had a nice 20km ride with my wife, going pretty flat out - almost my commuting speed which is unusual for her.

We're pretty optimistic that spring has arrived. We just have to look closely. We're ready to ride!

She's wearing lipstick and eye makeup. I don't think the hardcore female surfers stop to do their face before they jump in the water. :p
