I browse craigslist every day looking for a reasonable buy on a steel road bike to ride, hopefully without a lot of fixup. I ran across this today and it looks pretty reasonable. Opinions? I've contacted the seller to have a look, but have not heard back from them yet. I do not have any further information than what the ad says right now.

I'm not a Univega expert, but with downtube shifters, alloy rims, nice crankset, I'm betting that's at least a decent buy, maybe an excellent buy. BTW, if those are Shimano Clipless, you can probably flip them for $20 on CL. If it's your size bike, I'd go for it.

Hardar to tell from the pics, but appears to be mid-1980's, pre-index. During this period, the Gran Sprint was a lower mid-range model. Most likely a triple butted CrMo frame with MnMo forks and stays. Lower, midrange components such as SR Signature cranks and Dia-Compe 400 brakeset. Possibly a Cyclone derailleur. Original value about $350, depending on the exact year.

Priced about right given condition (it needs some work).

Thanks for all the responses. Unfortunately, Craig's list leaves a lot to be desired for contacting the seller directly. They are simply not responding to me. I sent my first email 45 minutes after they posted. I cannot believe it sold that fast.

I think you nailed it pretty darn close. I finally reached the seller and saw the bike and bought it. We aired up the tires and I rode it for a few miles. Everything worked. It can use some cleanup, but it will be a decent rider for me. More importantly its my size. I've got a broken-in Brooks B17 Imperial saddle to put on it and I'll retape the handlebars.

I wanted something besides my prized Cervelo to ride to the store and use for slow sight seeing group rides. This bike will be perfect and its worth $125 to me. The seller told me he was swamped with email inquiries on it. I was the first.

Thanks to everyone who responded.
