It's a topic that interests me quite a bit. I read alot about dieting and lets face it, I've done a lot of dieting. Many proponents recommend to weigh yourself at most 1 time every day, and some even say to forego the scales to once a week. I find that I get the best results when I weigh myself several times through the day. I am sometimes surprised by the reading, either good or bad but it atleast gives me a baseline in how I am doing throughout the day. Also, if I don't weigh-in iften enough, that's when I get on a slippery slope and gain the most. I tend to weigh myself about 5 to 6 times a day when I am activly trying to lose weight and I find it highly motivating. I might try a chart it next time, to see intervals. Might be interesting. Currently at 165.1 kg. Aiming for 125 by the end of summer.

Cheers,

Eric..

i weigh myself any where from 2-3 times a day, and mostly just to see how my weight changes through the day.
i might make a weight loss chart, though i don't much see a point in it, unless i wanted to track my weight that closely

Once a week at a WW meeting or (since I'm going online only on 4-1) at the gym. I try to weight in after the morning "purging".

I weigh myself about once a year, when I go to the doctors office.... :D

A few things about weight though, the best time to weigh yourself is on Friday morning, you get up, go to the bathroom, empty your bowels and bladder, then without any clothes on and before eating or drinking anything, weigh yourself. This is likely to be the time and condition when your weight is lowest.

Daily weights can fluctuate +/- 2½ kg, and that can make it frustrating, because you see yourself down a little, up a little. By picking once a week, and making sure that your weight is not affected by outside conditions, your likely to see the actual trends after a few weeks.

2-3x a week, always first thing in the morning for consistency.

Last weighed myself sometime last summer. I think most diets are ineffective and mostly good for selling books but scientific data shows they are largely a waste of time. I believe you should eat a healthy, well balanced meal, using a minimum of processed food three times a day and keep portions reasonable small. And exercise enough to burn up the calories you eat. Thats why, among other reasons, I bike.

Haven't been on the scale but I did have to punch another hole in my belt to make it smaller.

I weight myself like twice a month, if that. A better way of telling how much fat you've lost is how loose your clothes feel.

As others have pointed out, the emotional aspects of up and down weight need to be considered and everyone is different. When I was pushing the hardest to lose weight, I weighed myself several times a day. Now, I weigh myself a few times a week. I have actually found that my lowest weight each day is right before lunch.

Twice a week in the gym. I don't even have a scale at home anymore.

First thing Saturday mornings, after the bathroom break, and before the shower. I just find it easier to chart that way. So once a week here, just like on The Biggest Loser.

A few (couple?) times a year, whenever I think about it.

I'm just not concerned with what I weigh, I do care about what kind of shape I'm in and how my clothes fit and such. I'm pretty aware of all that, good and bad, and what the scale says doesn't really change any of it.

Daily for me, before shower. Twice if you count a wii fit session if the weather is bad and we can't ride.

The big thing with weighing daily is that even if you weigh in at the same time and same point in your morning routine, you will see the number bounce around day to day, and not always in the direction you want. I've been doing this for several years, so it doesn't phase me if it jumps a pound or two for no good reason, and likewise don't get overinflated if it drops (it will come back up the following day, guanteed).

I have a scale in my bathroom, and I tend to step on it every morning after doing amy business and before brushing my teeth and getting dressed. Sometimes I will step on it in the evening before going to bed, just to see.

I realize that, especially where my wieght is, my scale is not very accurate. In fact, I can step on it three times and get three different weights. As I drop pounds, though, it is getting better.
I use my home scale as a kind of guidline, but only really trust the Tanita scale that my surgeon has in his office.

What I do or anyone else does is not really a thing IMHO . YOU do what works for YOU . If your doing well losing weight and all is right doing it your way then do it .

Once a week. I have tried weighing myself everyday and it drives me CRAZY. I have fluctuated 10lbs in a week (with a little friday night drinky drinky). I find that with my Friday night dinner out that Thursday night seems to be the best "weigh in day" though officially I do the Sunday morning weigh in for my weight watchers. I can carry an extra 2-3 lbs for 4 days or so when I get my buzz on so I have REALLY scaled back on that.

+1, about that, but all this talk makes me want to weigh in at the gym today.

I usually weigh myself 2-3 times a week whenever I am at the gym. Of course in the summer when I am riding more and am in the gym less, that number goes down.

Daily in the morning, after urinating. It's all about the long term trend, not the fact that you're 2 lbs 'heavier' today than yesterday, or that you 'lost 1' 1/2 lbs since yesterday. Because realistically you can't do either.

I can't see any point in weighing yourself several times during the day, what with meals and defecating and sweating causing fluctuations, there's very little to learn.

The Google 15 applet is a handy tool for charting your weight - it tracks a two week running average of your weight, so those day to day fluctuations become meaningless.

Hmm. My scale does the same thing. I weighed between 300, and 305 this morning, depending on when I stepped on it. I weigh myself once a week, and use it as a guide. I also use the mirror and clothes fit as a guide.
