There's just something about big high speed drops into very very deep powder.
BASE jumps I can pass on.

When I was 7 I overheard my mom tell a neighbour after coaxing my 2 year old brother down from the top of a jungle gym: "at least this one" pointing at me "is a chicken. I only have to worry about her when boys start coming around. Boys I can handle. Boys and heights, not so much."

Thanks mom.

He left a wife and a 3 year old daughter. Very sad. I was 39 when my daughter was 3, the thought of her losing her Dad before she really knew him is very tough indeed.

I do think road cycling is considerably less hazardous than base ski jumping off big friggin hairy ice cliffs there Alpine. Maybe not the way I do it, but still.

Indeed it's sad for the remaining family... I know my 'extreme' activities were much curtailed when I became Daddy, but it isn't what I did for a living either. 3 years old, sucks large. I'll go home and hug my kids now.

Although..... from a quality of life standpoint he died doing what he loved... how many of us will get the same chance?

If x136 dies of a heroin overdose...will we say the same thing about him?

That's precisely how I look at road cycling. I stopped worrying about getting hit by the bus years ago. I do what I can to be safe and leave it in God's hands baby. And God does watch out for Idiots, so I figure I have that going for me.

I wonder if the sponsor's legal team is drafting a memo to marketing about the whole 'will give you wings' ad campaign right about now...
