I live in the city and spent the week climbing the hills in the presidio, so I am looking for something different this weekend. Planning to go out Sunday and looking for a route outside the city and relatively flat. I don't mind driving to the east bay or down the peninsula to start. Any suggestions?

Starting from the Presidio, ride over the GG bridge to Sausalito and there are lots of flat routes north of there. A popular loop is to take the bike path up to Tiburon and do the Paradise loop.

Or take BART to Walnut Creek and head south on the Iron Horse Trail. It doesn't get much flatter.

San Pablo is a fairly nice ride from Richmond all the way down to Oakland. It's flat pretty much the same way, and traffic isn't generally too bad on the weekends. Perhaps not the best option, but it's definitely available.
