@botto: Either my perception is severely off - in which case I ask you and the other veterans on this board to correct it - or this is yet another race where Rabo flubbed the endgame.

Flecha, Nuyens and Langevelde in the final break, along with Boonen, Chavanel and Devolder from QS, plus a smattering of some other solo riders.

Boonen launched the decisive attack on the Knokteberg, followed only by Iglinsky and Pippo.

He used it leading out Pippo.

Not really.. Pippo started sprinting before Tommy

Boonen must have been whipped. He just didn't look like he had it in the sprint.

boonen put in a huge attack earlier on a climb, but the field eventually came back together. he then instigated the 3 man break after another climb. boonen is tapped as the best sprinter of the guys that were left before the second break, and he had chavenel and devolder there, so i am not sure why he wanted to get away 25k from the finish. it seems to me that he could sit in, let chavenel and develoder clawback any attacks, and then sprint for the win. maybe he was using it more as training. it seemed to me that he was doing more than his fair share of the pulls in the 3 man break, so it isn't surprising that he didn't have his typical kick. pippo is no slouch, and giving him any advantage in a sprint is going to be bad news.

I doubt the 4-time winner was treating this as training.

Hmm, I didn't see the race. Sounds like he did a ton of work. Interesting.
