If that BigHit is in your price range, then you have alot of choices my Friend! My advice would be to look around on these forums, maybe do a few searches for your specific questions, and go test ride some different models at a LBS. All bikes ride/feel different from each other. Get one that fits your body (med or maybe a large) to the bike's frame geometry. Like I said, they all ride different, handle different, feel different & look different. That's one great point about this sport. You can possibly have a bike like none of your friends ride, and that's setup just for you!

My personal favorites are:

K2 (older Beast, Animal, Flyin' Monkey)
Haro (Extreme Series)
Specialized (Enduro, BigHit, Demo)

How much DH'ing do you want to do and how hardcore? You are pretty small so take it easy at first. What's in your $$$ range? There are a ton of bikes out there.

The Spec looks ok but you may want a better fork for DH because that one may be prone to too much flexing. You can always upgrade components. I ride a Brooklyn Machine Works park bike which is a hardtail but this thing would go down any mountain when I change the tires (and I do). I use a Marz Super T. It was the best fork for the $$$.

it all depends on what you can spend on crap. You are very light and a beginner so you would be fine with the Specialized. I just don't like the fork.http://img70.photobucket.com/albums/v214/CRSO57/IMG_0316.jpg

You can always upgrade the components though. You can ride a HT downhill but I wouldn't recommend it. I ride a Brooklyn Machine Works park bike which is a hardtail but this thing would go down any mountain when I change the tires to my Gazzo's (and I do). I use a Marz Super T. It was the best fork for the $$$.

Also, check out the used bikes that people buy and can't afford... Craigslist.com and ridemonkey.com always has stuff in the buy/sell section...
