Mountain Biking - serious question about undies

okay, in all serious, what kind of underwear do you ride while riding. I know its gonna be hard to keep this mature, but I think most of can keep it that way. Okay, a few pantie jokes are okay, everyone likes jokes about undies. okay, so here is my question, and why I'm asking:

What kind of underwear do you where while riding? I normally wear Cargo style shorts, and boxer briefs, but am always having to "un-bunch" them. On longer rides I where cycling shorts under the cargos, but for shorter after work rides an such I just change my shorts and ride. How do you all deal with this problem. I know its been covered, but couldn't find any good info searching. What about u guys who ride in jeans. I know your not wearing cycling shorts under them.

Okay, heres the weird uncomfortable part. I have tried all kinds of undies, even comando (bad idea brothers.) But they all seem to act the same, boxers where the worst, and tighties just plain sucked. Am I stuck having to wear cycling shorts, or is there a better option. My cargos that I normally wear aren't overly loose, but not tight either. All my cargos are the same size about, would that be the issue. I have been dealing with this for years, and have finally had the fits of it

I don't ride offroad much but when I do I just wear lycra/spandex "road bike" bibs. No underwear.

Other option: Andiamo padded cycling underwear. They have thin padding compared to bike shorts/bibs. That's what I wear when not wearing mtb shorts with chamois.

They aren't as comfortable to walk/sit in as commando or regular briefs though so if I'm going a short distance and will be hanging around after riding, I'll just wear these cotton/lycra boxer brief style things marketed as "cycling briefs" by target: (http://www.target.com/Merona-Cotton-Lycra-Cycle-Briefs/dp/B000WXZFAU)

I wear my old Cannondale bike shorts under my cammy shorts. Plus boxxer briefs...no problems.

I can wear about anything for three or four hours. After that the all cotton boxer briefs have kept enough moisture in to chafe me. I say chamois, in a liner short/outer short or a Lycra short.

cycling shorts as a base layer whenever i ride. If its a road ride I just throw those on, but for a mountain bike ride or "urban ride" on the mtb I throw some cargo shorts over the top. Now when commuting if its not to long of a distance I just wear my regualr street gear and tough it out.

Any cycles shorts with removable padding when worn without the padding (I bought my shorts cos of the fit, pads went in the wardrobe and haven't come out since), some don't even have a padded liner in the first place, they're just casual shorts with a slightly different cut and groin area (I presume thats it anyways, some have nifty pockets for lift passes etc).

I have shorts like this. I wear them over bike shorts.

Did a little cleanup here, now let's keep the peace.

When I go mountain biking, I always wear jeans. Yes, I'm one of those guys.

If I have been riding a lot recently (day after day), or if I plan on riding a lot that particular day, I wear my spandex biker shorts under my jeans. Makes for a day in the saddle comfortable. Having read the thread... I get the idea that some people wear underwear under biker shorts? Those spandex biker shorts are meant to be the only layer you wear, unless you plan on wearing something overtop to hide you roadie-ness.

However, if I just plan on doing a power hour on the trails, I wear my regular underwear. Whatever I was wearing during the day is what I wear for the ride.

I wear these spandex-y boxers. They're kind of like bathing suits (the speedo short things you can get), except 90% cotton, 10% spandex.

Myself...I'm all 'bout the pink panties...seems to fit my riding style.






Check into Oakley shorts with padded liners. I really like mine. The liners take the place of my pink panties.

They work great, ride them as well.

On my daily commute or errands, I just wear boxers under regular shorts. Actually, they're more like cropped shants, but you get the idea. When riding on the road, it's bibs + nothing. When riding dirt, I break out the dirt-specific nylon shorts and wear those over top of the bibs. Seriously, I can't say enough about bibs. They stay in place no matter what, plus keep your junk and your gut in line.

So your all saying I'm stuck havign to change even for the short after work rides, or deal with my issue. I guess I've been dealing with it for this long, right....

Of everything I've tried, I like the REI cycling briefs under unlined riding or race shorts the best. They're like the Adiamos that pacificaslim mentioned above. The padding is thin and un-diaper-like and usually just enough if you have a good saddle that fits you well.

Try underarmour boxer briefs. Thats what I wear under my mtb shorts.

i wear nothing under any of my cycling shorts/ bibs. they all have chamois.

Ya wussies...I wear a burlap bag cut to size. Hell, even carry a pair of pliers down there case I need some fixin on the trail.:thumb:

briefs... 100% cotton types...for everything. (though i wouldn't recommend them for long rides)

Another "chamois type pad" underneath whatever shorts you want. Be it bike specific baggies or otherwise.

I've got a bunch of meshy padded liners that breath and vent really well, and a couple pair of nice Pearl Izumi padded shorts that go under whatever shorts I feel like. The meshy ones are nicer when things start getting warmer/more humid. The PI ones are much nicer padded, and get more use on longer/more pedaly rides.
