I am eagerly awaiting to pick my new Lemond steel Zurich. I want to get a carbon fiber seatpost for it but can't find the dia. anywhere. I called 2 shops and they gave me 2 different answers. What is the sizing???? Please help...

Both of my Lemonds - Maillot Jaune and Poprad - are 27.2. Since the MJ is the same frame as the Zurich with different paint and decals, I would think it to be 27.2 also. This is for the older steelies and may not apply to the new carbon/steel 04's.

why do you need a CF seatpost with a steel/CF frame? i'd go with a just as light Al model without all the slipping and hassles of the CF seatpost. don't mean to be snotty. just asking. the likely answer is for asthetics rather than for ride qualities.

I'm rolling a Lemond MJ, as said before, same frame as the Zurich... 27.2mm... and I also have a carbon seatpost... doesn't really feel a whole lot different than the AL seatpost, and probably weighs a touch more... but it does look cool :-)

I'm riding a 2003 Zurich and recently wanted to try a carbon post - had a Thompson Elite. With the Lemond long top tube I wanted to avoid the normal seat post set back. My LBS recommended a Winwood carbon post (they make carbon forks for road and cross bikes and carbon pedal accessories) with no set back. I have over 200mi so far on this post and love it. Lessens the vibration (even though it only has about 5" showing above the clamp) and sting of aloy. The Winwood post is all carbon including the top rail clamp. Only metal is the aloy under rail rocker and the bolts. Two bolt adjusting is simple and depending on the extension you can cut off some of the post and still have the required amount in the post. The post is natural carbon and so far has not slipped (175lb rider). Good luck.

For the cost of a carbon post you can get the Thomson Masterpiece - I have one and it's da bomb!
