But I don't know who it is yet.....

The US Postal team will continue in 2005 with the same structure as it currently possesses but a new name, according to directeur sportif Johan Bruyneel. Quoted by Reuters at the Tour du Languedoc-Roussillon Bruyneel said, "I can tell you that we have found a sponsor for the team next season when U.S. Postal service stop their involvement."

Bruyneel made the comment in the context of denying an Italian press report that Armstrong planned to retire after the Tour de France. "The article did not quote Lance or anyone close to him. I think it's wrong. I'm even certain it is."

Bruyneel would not say who the new sponsor will be.

i'm kinda hoping subaru will step up its involvement. they're tied more to lance, i guess, but i think it'd be a good fit. also, i've noticed they picked up AMD as a moving-up-the-list sponsor. if nothing else, that'll make me think twice before buying an intel-based computer for my next one.

I think we ought to get Popeye's Chicken to sponsor them- then they can all run around with fried chicken on their shirts... either that or a big 'ole biscut with gravy!

:D

I heard Berry Floor were extreamly happy with their involvement, maybe they're taking it to the next level. So glad to hear that they are keeping the team structure together.

This is just a guess but I think it might be Coca Cola. This way they could have a cycling racing family. Remember the commercial they had with LA and the nascar drivers last year. This is one company that could easily afford it.

Plus they are an international company. They certainly fit on the advertising side. Love to see a Saeco/Coca Cola bunch sprint, all those red jerseys.

Ok... if not Popeye's, fershizzle it would have to be Roscoe's. That's some good @ssed chicken, and I've lined up more than once around Roscoe's in Hollywood. We need one in Chicago, cause I'm in serious Roscoe withdrawal. :)

If Popeye's Chicken does it, will Sherwin and Liggett refer to the main group as the "pullet-ton?" ;)

Dell would be great. I heard that Michael Dell's wife is an avid trriathlete. At least she knows a little bit about riding, but that would be a conflict with AMD. Oh well, somone will step up.

Cheers

Or maybe it would wise Dell up enough to include AMD in their line (probably not, but would be nice).

Dell, AMD, or Berry Floor would be pretty nice options. I think Dell or AMD would probably have better colors (still blue if dell, or that awsome AMD green). But if Gateway sponsored the team they could all be riding the spotted cow themed project one bikes:)

Harold's Chicken is great. I love that place. And now I live just around the corner from this burrito restaurant. I'm too scared to visit... I can't be running over there every day for the burrito of the day, so I avoid it like the plague.

MMMMMMMMMM.... burritos......

I would love to see Subaru take the main sponsorship. I just purchased an Outback from one of the dealerships here two weeks ago and their showroom had huge photos of Lance everywhere. The salesperson said that they use Lance in their training videos.

Personally I think the Apple should sponser the team and I agree that the old logo is truly awesome. However ususally rainbow colors are reserved for world champions

What about Verizon, or AT&T wireless? Heh... Tmobile/telekom has been such a huge sponsor for so many years.... Lance could be climing Alpe d'Huez(sp?) "Can you hear me now? ..good", while Jan has no signal ;)

They have been trying to establish markets in Europe, and were having a tough time of it in Germany I recall.

Don't they have a tie in with the St. Louis Blues, owned by the same family I think...that would suck to have the 2 sports passions in my life be tied into Wally's World.

I like the UPS idea. I can see the commercial now:

Lance on his bike.
Starts riding.
Stops.
Starts.
Stops.
Looks at camera as camera pulls back to show UPS truck:
"I've GOT to get a new training partner."

but then they'd crash every ten minutes, and get hacked via backdoor vulnerabilities...i hear that's painful for cyclists...

(that's the best i could come up with, sorry)

And once they crash, they have to submit all the information back to Microsoft so they can be told what went wrong.

They'd also have to reach for the mouse, point to the dropdown menu to select and then eventually wait for the dialog box so they can click the Ok button in order to change gears, attack, counterattack, lead-out the sprinter...

Oh wait. What was that discussion back a couple of months ago concerning the dependency on race radios and the DS? Maybe this won't be so alien a concept afterall. ;)

BTW, not that I've never operated a mouse while on a bike before... :)

This is true. Bill Laurie, whose wife Nancy is Sam Walton's niece, owns the Blues. If the Walmart connection to sports really bugs you then this should make it worse: Stan Kroenke, whose wife Ann is Sam's other niece, owns the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche and part of the St. Louis Rams. Three out of the four major sports ain't too bad. It would be pretty cool to be siblings and own two NHL Western Conference rivals. Ann and Nancy's father was Bud Walton, who co-founded Walmart with his brother.

I don't have a problem with Walmart, per se, but it would seem to cheapen the look of the team.

Car industry exponents as cycling sponsors may be common, but it somehow always strikes me as a bit odd... Don't know why.

It's a good thing that Peugeot also make bikes, because the checkerboard jersey is of course a classic:

I still don't get the whole "if I am pro-bike, I must be anti-car" attitude. At anyrate, car companies have had their hand in not only sponsoring cycling teams for a long time but they also sponsor races. Jeep sponsors NORBA events, the highly touted Tour de Georgia we've all been so proud of lately was sponsored by Chrysler, automobile manufacturers throw in advertising dollars during the TdF coverage by OLN... They're just as acceptable or as strange as a wood-laminate flooring company sponsoring a cycling team.

It's not that I'm anti-car; I'm just not very much pro-car either.

Maybe my point is that cars and bikes have a lot in common and that this--just as combining two colours that are 'too close' to one another--makes for a lesser match.

Seems to me that from a marketer's point of view, it would be most natural for either Trek or Nike to take over as the main name sponsor. To most viewers, USPS-Berry Floor is Lance Armstrong and the two companies Lance is most identified with are Nike and Trek.
